I went through the Midgar section of the original last night to see how the remake compares. Can anyone explain why this scene was missing from the remake?

It lives on in our hearts
Actually looks like a fan remade it for us.
Spoiler: show
Thanks Valisk
New theory;
This isn't the first time Sephiroth has changed history. The "original" Stamp chips were a glimpse into the original, unaltered timeline, not just an alternate reality. Zack lives, stops Sephiroth. Sephiroth changes history so that Zack dies, only this time Cloud stops him. So now he's trying again, paying more attention to Cloud and fucking with him right from the start. Sephiroth has started a time loop that sends him back every time he fails. "Remake" describes what Sephiroth is attempting to do.

Welcome to Final Fantasy, time travel was the very first plot they ever used.

On floor 20,30,40 and 50 if you go back down 5 floors there is some extra dialogue that Barret will spill out.
VIII was a MASTERPIECE.
X was also good and Tidus and Jecht both time traveled.

8 was garbage, the only thing it had going for it was a basic card game that had about as much depth as your mothers cunt.
InB4 3 more FF7R installments with Aerith and Sephy spouting "all this has happened before" with the 4th installment ending with Seto's father leading the pack of red lions upon a trashed Midgar. The last line of the remake is the elder turning to his son, Seto, saying "This is the shape of things to come".
8 was brilliant, it's not my fault everybody else is stupid.

I don't believe it's that the Lifestream rejected him, it's (and this could be translation error) that his will was too strong for him to be completely absorbed into the lifestream (+Jenova)
Not sure it has ever been made clear why Sephiroth can ignore the influence of the lifestream but my favorite pet theory is that, because Jenova isn't from the planet, the planet has no control over her and her most powerful/pure 'offspring'. Sephiroth is not 100% Jenova cells but he is the most pure, undiluted form of Jenova offshoot that exists outside of living cuttings of Jenova herself.
