It's also quite accurate as to how some posters on this forum have been treating FF7R. It also seems that there's an enormous amount of fairweather flipflop that has happened in regards to some people's opinions about certain aspects of the game and their thoughts on certain plot points. Everyone's allowed to have their own opinions, but don't shit down the throats of those who find issue with some of the lazy and drawn out parts of the game, because it is far from perfect, especially when the main arguments often boil down to "you're wrong because I'm right", "it's ok because other games like this also do it", or "akshually you just dont like it because u 2 dum dum to understand the complex gameplay and plot of final fantasy seven the remake".

You actually could save materia sets, but between weapons and not multiple sets per weapon. Kinda useless since I'm sure most of us found a weapon we liked and only used that regardless.

Lol what? I have outright said multiple times that I don't give a shit if you like parts of the game that the big bad critics don't like. The only time I've engaged in discussion about this shit is when I've been personally drawn into it by those transparent, low effort arguments that I listed there. In my experience, it generally boils down in the same way every time:

-Someone A mentions something they didn't like about the game: be it gameplay or plot
-Someone B or multiple someones engage said person and try to list all the reasons that, actually, it's great and because they thought it was great the negative opinion is wrong
-Someone A or Someone C responds further to back up why they feel the way they do about said gameplay or plot point
-Someone B, etc. continue the cycle, and this is often where it terminates


Great example is the Sath and Hell House thing. Sath's initial complaint of how stupid (read: not HARD) the fight felt the first time through because he (and many other) people didn't have and wouldn't have the need to have an entire set of elemental materia equipped for the boss fight ended up being construed as "you thought it was too hard because you played the game wrong, but hey it's ok to play the game wrong :^]"

I want to be able to swap materia mid battle, that would be a HUGE QOL improvement. Like, 15 minutes into fighting Hell House I was debating whether to trudge on or just go reload and re-slot my materia.

Still had fun though.

They don't explain it well, but if you restart from the last checkpoint, usually they start you right outside the boss battle you were doing where you can edit your materia. Made restarting that fight not a huge deal, assuming you even had the materia in question which by that point I think you could have found them all for free in the field if you never purchased them. Could be mistaken on that though

I did overall like the game, I still think (even after weeks of ruminating on it) that it's above average as I initially said, just bitter that it could've been a lot better than it turned out especially with how long it took them to make it. The main positive component of FF7R being episodic is that future iterations can include improvements to the more lackluster elements of the game which is the one thing that keeps me from outright hating the idea of how long it is going to take to finish the entire saga. So in all I am almost grateful that it wasn't 1 game 1 experience.
