Wow imagine disagreeing with another nerds opinion and dragging them with personal attacks lmao. Some of you guys are such fossils, time to get that stick out of your ass.

People acting like the gambit system from FF12 was the best thing invented in video game history. Here is a shocker, nobodies opinion is a fact and everyone is allowed to like different battle systems. FF12 imo was fun but it became easily abused and took the fun out of it for me. It's literally one of the only games with a system like that and you're acting like its a standard. It is as simple as googling "best Gambit setup" or "best gambit setup for X boss" You act like its some kind of complex coding that only big brains can understand. In the end all it did was take off responsibility of playing the other two characters.

It's no different than googling the best gear swap for Gekko or whatever WS, either. However, unlike XI, use of Gambits and their optimization thereof was optional. And if there's one thing I know I personally hate about any RPG with AI party members, it's when they act supremely derpy and do what you don't want. In XII's case, that's your fault, at least. The lack of games that have latched onto this level of customization since IS disappointing. And those of us gacha sluts in the room truly know how idiot AI ruins a combat system.

Unlike XI? There were plenty of players who didnt even gear swap lol, so i would say its optional too.

Games stay away from the system because its easy to abuse and be made to be automated. People set it up to automatically farm items and play for them, I dont get why a game dev would like that. You can say people can just turn it off but thats like saying people can keep level 1 gear the whole game to create a hard mode in other games, just silly when you have the power to use whats available.

Back on topic having materia from the original game that would act similar to gambits in characters you weren't controlling would be a good upgrade for Part 2's battle system.

Seriously. Aside from them standing in dumb shit on like, 2 or 3 bosses, and building ATBs too slowly, I loved the battle system. I enjoyed having to go through and pick all their actions just like I did in the original. It felt like a near perfect mix between turn based and straight action.

There are obvious problems like the boss staggers disappearing during CSs and wasting LBs like that, but that should be super easy to fix going forward (hopefully). And its not so much a fault of the idea behind the battle system, just a fault with the execution, if that makes sense.

I agree, I loved it too and felt it was a nice way to respect the original gameplay style. Too many arm chair devs

And I can argue it all made XI easier than intended, especially once the jump to extended macros happened with Windower. The people that never changed gear and all that otherwise became the ones perennially mocked, kicked from parties, not invited into parties/linkshells, shamed in threads, etc.. There was simply gobs of power to be gained by doing it, and over time could translate to success or failure in difficult encounters.

To that end, you can certainly bet the XII devs never intended for people to find a way to auto Yiazmat or whatever. Then again, I'd call them out on having a fight that took that long to begin with. The collective curiosity and ingenuity of players has a bad habit of outsmarting devs and their limited time and resources to test. That doesn't mean the system was bad or should never return. It's just a request for the choice, and in a solo game, no less. Use it or don't. There's no competition or judgment unless the player personally chooses to make such.

And those people never won the parse and therefore don't count.

I liked the Combat minus the stagger into stop signs.. but that was a pretty large detraction. And 12 is the only FF I've never finished.

Really? I never had this issue when playing the remake. Which amazed me because I distinctly remember in FFXV that at one point I restarted a fight against a Malboro, because my idiot squad kept running into Bad Breath after I tossed Phoenix Downs on them and just left them dead on the restart to save items. I fully expected the AI to be this stupid again in the remake, so I was surprised they weren't that fully retarded (they could of course be tweaked for some minor annoyances, but that was fixable by switching to these characters, unlike FFXV).

They were bad and that's why the system "conspired" to make sure they never got good gear because they didn't deserve it.

Yea I think the AI was generally very good at not dying with the exception of ultimate moves like Megaflare.

This is my hope too. The materia they included alluded to lots of options they could bring in the future, such as Auto Cure, Provoke, and ATB Boost. No proof of course, but to me, it's all just a tease of what's to come.

AI-wise FFVIIR was good. Aeris knew her shit as a healer and became an essential member of my party. Very rarely I got pissed at an AI move and we all know that shitty ally AI is a game breaker.

With Provoke and similar materias I suppose they can create a gambit system but I don't think they will follow a strict job system. In VII Its really healers and others in my opinion, everyone can be a Tank/Caster, Tank/DD. For a while I really operated with a mental job system in my mind but eventually I had Cure materias in every character and any member could top their HP bars.

The most annoying thing about the AI for me was that Aerith would constantly leave the Arcane Ward.

Everyone should have Cure/Pray/Revive imo, at least on Hard Mode, but that didn't mean Aerith wasn't the most effective as your team's healer. You just needed insurance for when she didn't have ATB or when she is downed.

My Tifa couldn't take a hit unless she was running lots of HP materia. Cloud could tank decently but Barret was by far the best. Then inverse that order when it came to doing DPS. Barret actually worked out to be a good offensive caster IMO because he can get so much ATB from blocking at range.

My only real problem with the AI was they wouldn't build ATB. Standing there blocking when the mob focuses whomever I'm playing is dumb. I don't need it to be any smarter than that (If mob aggro != self, attack mob).

I think the AI does auto attack the mob, the problem is that the ATB gain for non-focus characters is decreased. And because they don't cure themselves, they go into guard only mode pretty fast because all the hard fights have lots of AOE. Forces you to basically keep switching to your healer or spamming Pray on your DPS character.

Honestly wanting to be told exactly how to play the game by daddy enix instead of having options is just stupid. One of the options you have is to play the game exactly how daddy intended for you to play. Wanting there to be no customization is just so stupid. Even shit like Tales games has "cast spells until MP < 25%". Do you know how basic that is? Do you not like such an idea? Are you an idiot? I think you are an idiot. I think you are a stupid idiot who wants to be told how to play the game by daddy so that you don't have to think.

Your complaints about gambits boil down to "I could google what the optimal gambit setup to use was so it was too easy". So when daddy square wouldn't tell you exactly how to play you had no option but to fall back on daddy google because you can't think for your fucking self you stupid idiot.

Edit: I just remembered as well. In FFXII, as an example, you had access to an accessory in the first area of the game that makes it so you get 0 EXP from fights. So if you want the ability to be autistic and try to play the game at level 1 you can. You don't have to. I don't have to. I don't want to. But if somebody does, they can. And that's lovely.

    And you're an idiot.
