Well, two of them were. They got offed in short order.
One got a redemption arc, I don't remember the details though, so cant say if it was contrived, or on the up and up.

Hey I'm not claiming to be any kind of expert. I've seen probably 8 episodes of Buffy ever. None of Angel, none of Dollhouse, maybe 2 or 3 of Firefly (which is basically the whole series though, right?). But from what I saw, and I'm not saying there of course isn't further development especially over the course of multiple seasons, Whedon's template is "borderline underage girl with super powers does sexy fighting in between dealing with existential angst."

Glad I didn't pull the trigger on a TV. Wife's work is auctioning off TVs they used in testing/reviews including the one I was looking at for $500 off and the LG CX and BX for $500-800 off.
