Close cousin of mine just moved out of NYC to a colossal ass house in GA. The mass exodus out of the city is real.

Dude I saw a lakefront singlewide in BFE Georgia listed on FB marketplace. It’s clearly someone’s vacation home/fishing lodge but no reason a single person couldn’t make it their perma-home. Parcel of land and the trailer for like 18k and I’m like damn I could live there as long as I can get some decent internet

My new coworker is going through absolute hell trying to buy a house. Last one he put an offer down (80k over asking) got shot down by an all cash 150k over asking. He and his wife have been at this for 4 weeks already. LA housing market SUCKS.

What’s funny is every article/person who talks about the housing market outside of CA they claim it’s because CA people are coming into their state and buying everything up, and I am all like, “but but they’re buying it all up here, too!”

A few years before that, someone actually made a more helpful version of the statement, involving working at a place in Ventura County.

I crunched the numbers, and it would have resulted in a worse financial situation for my household than what we were already dealing with, because the rent in Ventura/Oxnard is WORSE than LA.
Why? Because conservative NIMBYs ruled there, and in their line of thought, by keeping the prices high, it'll keep anyone with dark skin priced out. So any developments that would make housing affordable were shot the fuck down.

Santa Barbara is one of the NIMBYest in all the land with the highest property values and is A) liberal as fuck B) hella minority. not that liberal minorities can't be racists but i've never heard of the anti-black conspiracy you peddle good sir. Ventura County is a little more conservative than us but we're talking Biden winning by 20 points not 30 you know.

It is slowly changing, the democratic party has the reigns now, but that was a VERY recent development.
