"Nerd!"
Best thing about my recent ffx playthough was playing on pc with the mod that everyone got exp every fight, instead of having to constantly swap people in to take actions every fight to get credit. It really helped tone down the grind
And I'm also in the 'never got Lulu's weapon' club. Lightning dodging is tedious and frustrating
lot of talk about a vidya game that wasn't particularly good
yeah i seem to remember getting shit on quite a bit for defending ffx when i was playing it
plot still makes perfect sense btw
definitely the worst optional endgame tho, incredibly tedious
FFX excelled at most things except its lack of extra content and the casual map which was replaced by having to run through the entire world on foot. I would have loved to have actually flown the airship and been able to discover areas like in 7 and 8.
The story was great and made for better repeat plays when you realize why things play out the way they do.
Everyone holds 9 in high regard, so I'm going to use that as the comparator here.
FF10's plot is better developed than FF9's, hands down. In FF9, they don't go a good job at all explaining how Terra takes over worlds, what the "flow of souls" is (and how the flow is disrupted and why Garland needs "angels" versus just nuking everything with his Invincible ship), etc. I said it was a better realized version of FF4, but similarly makes no sense and has a lot of gaps that we are just supposed to ignore. But in FF10, the cycle of Sin and the Calm, past Zanarkand being a dreamworld of the Fayth, etc. are all comparatively made clear as concepts throughout the gameplay. I place a lot of value in the ability of the game to make the plot coherent from what we see vs. supplemental material (including reading an in-game glossary).
FF9 probably wins in character development. Tidus/Yuna and Zidane/Garnet are roughly equal as romances with Tidus' backstory being better than Zidane's, but Vivi's journey is a mirror of the development of Zidane and a lot of the core themes of FF9. Vivi isn't matched by anyone else in 10. Steiner would be the next up and he's roughly equivalent to what we get out of Wakka. Everyone else in both games has pretty forgettable levels of development with like one short dungeon/arc that features their character.
FF10 has the better minigame, Blitzball > Tetra Master. Fite me.
The lightning strike dodges and the chocobo race (among others) are tedious and terrible but Excalibur II's requirements basically lock you from getting it unless you want to dedicate a very specialized playthrough for it.
The sphere system was better than the ability crystals, and the summoning system in FF10 is still one of the more interesting ones in the franchise.
the only thing i will never understand when it comes to ff tastes is why the majority of people seem to like triple triad more than tetramaster
triple triad sucks. it’s literally the beta version for tetramaster, which is far superior
Consistently writing a thesis and being wrong.
Triple Triad and Blitzball are the best mini games of any Final Fantasy, maybe ever.

Even Suikoden II's cooking game is just reading recipe scores online and then making your highest combo.
Breath of Fire III's fishing is in the running though.

ffx sucks except for blitzball, the rest of it in it's entirety can be summed up by the video of tidus' laugh
ff9 very good
