Let her get treated for her disease before competing. Raise awareness, etc. Lol

Or maybe let people that are pretty fucking elite at one thing not have to be fucking experts at publicity as well.

She's excellent at tennis, the rest of the other shit is not necessary. Getting treated for her disease does not mean she'll ever be cured or even be in a place where it is more manageable.

No one asked her to be an expert publicist tho. Y'all acting like people want a 60minutes interview between sets lol. If she wants to be some enigmatic tennis superstar with anxiety that never interviews, let her do her. I'm sure she'll get paid big bucks for that one interview with Oprah or Barbara Walters after she wins the next tourney.

I'm def curious if that changes the money behind the scenes and how they profit off the sport. Im def curious if sponsors offer her less if she's seen as being less public, or if that even matters if you're that much better than everyone else. Idk, seems interesting and I'd like to learn more.

Addendum to Oprah/Walters. Speaking to a crowd of people asking pointed questions is very different to speaking to one person that shows compassion and actively considers the kinds of questions they are asking.

We're not talking about tennis. We're talking about a tennis player's mental health and her relationship with public speaking.

I'm not blaming her for being anxious about her position in the professional sport, but she's not the first superstar and saw this coming. Even then, if it's so much for her that she'd rather not compete as the best tennis player in the world atm, and afaik that was her own choice, then maybe she should genuinely get some help with that before continuing. I wish her well, and wish it could have ended in a better way than the best tennis player not competing.

And also the general expectations of a professional athlete in a professional, televised sporting event.

You're going to have to educate me on what you mean by "general expectations."

Because playing the sport and actually talking to people digging into your shit are two very different thing.

Like media appearances, however brief or informal. Without knowing a lot of details it's hard to have a stronger opinion than "kinda sucks, wish she competed, dang you really that anxious girl?"

The way I see it, the French Open has decided not letting her play, and robbing tennis fans of the chance to see and elite player perform, for her refusal to speak with a press junket is is fair. That says more about them than it does her. It's patently obvious that whatever "general expectations" are being had are not fair ones.

If she expects to get paid by all her sponsors and the tournaments themselves, it's pretty safe to assume that doing publicity and the media obligations is part of that paycheck.

Don't wanna do the work don't get paid
