I've read she just peaced out, since that makes more sense than not letting her play at all which likely hurts them more than making a spectacle of dropping fees on her. Who knows though, I can imagine they pressured her about future events and that's when things got out of control leading to this.

Or maybe let people that are pretty fucking elite at one thing not have to be fucking experts at publicity as well.

directors are required by their producers to do media stuff selling their movies. book writers are required by their publishers to do media stuff selling their book. musicians are required by their labels to do media stuff selling their music.

none of these professions are experts at publicity, certainly not writers lol, yet all of them are required to be in front of people/cameras/whatever and sell their product for their bosses. pro athletes do the same thing after a match/game/bout, it's just what the entertainment industry is

people can think it's silly, and it definitely is, but it's one piece of how the industry functions as a business. it's what you sign up for when you take the leap from amateur to pro. media stuff is always part of pro contracts which is why sports leagues can fine the athlete for not showing up to them... you are literally reneging on the contract you signed. it's not like this was a shock she'd be talking in front of a camera at some point

if she doesn't care about taking fines every time she can skip them, i don't care. it's not my money. just don't be naive with the "she's just an athlete" conversation. she is a television star that performs her job on television and works for a sports league that have contracts with television networks. amateurs are the ones that don't deal with this stuff but they also don't get paid

I'm willing to concede that for her maybe it is a personal 9/11, but the solution is to talk that out before hand and figure it out, versus just withdrawing from the competition that expects some public interaction with you. That helps no one, including herself.

Whether that expectation is warranted is an entirely different convo though.

For things like anxiety, you may have to take prescribed medications. SSRIs and Benzos would wreck her ability to play. To take a dose strong enough to treat symptoms, lethargy and fatigue are extremely common symptoms.
