i think the reason why children are so prevalent/effective in horror films is because it’s one thing for the “horror” to be a rational adult, but it’s gets extra creepy/terrifying when the “horror” is an underdeveloped person who doesn’t understand right from wrong and thus has no cares about their actions

Eh most kids know right from wrong. Unless you mean when they mess with supernatural objects or the occult and don't understand the ramifications. But even if it's a demon or invisible entity the kid always tells the parents or adult when the being wants to harm someone or something. They usually don't believe the kid though and the possession begins to strengthen.
