It's complicated imo. Egyptians are considered white and ethnically European/Mediterranean despite being physically in Africa. African waist beads can be traced to all parts including Egypt, but I am pasty white and it's assumed to be a black person cultural thing.

I think it's an interesting concept though and I want to try them out. (They are tied around your waist and you monitor your weight loss/gain based on them going up or down. There is a "spiritual aspect" to it where like the colors represent things like health and happiness, but I just want them for the weight monitoring.)

i'd have to do some historiography to run the numbers but i imagine the biggest slave empires in world history were non-white. whites only have Rome and maybe Byzantium, otherwise you're looking at Mongols and Caliphates all down the top-10. American South and Imperio español might pop up towards the bottom.

You can't really pinpoint in many ways because Egypt was a melting pot. It's very likely my family goes back to ancient Egypt. My full-cousins don't look Middle Eastern to me. Their skin-tone has more of a Greek-olive look. One of these days I'll get one of those DNA tests to see what it says.

FWIW the US classifies Egyptians as white, and Egyptians classify themselves as white.

This is true.

It doesn't really matter much to me. I got my mom's irish skin so look hella white, I would feel really stupid calling myself anything else.

My sister looks very Egyptian though so if she wants that minority cred she can shoot for it.
