Tbh I don't think I ever finished it. I got it on my paperwhite because they had it for free but stopped halfway through. Not because I didn't like it mind you, but work/life/kids has made reading anything really difficult.

I used to be a part of the SCA, though, and knew about her anthologies work and how that promoted a lot of sci-fi/fantasy authors.

Yeah. They (SCA) used to do an annual fair on the green outside my school and afterwards a medieval feast at my church. So I would take part.

Never did the like war reenactment stuff. I had helped knights get out of their armor, and let me tell you, the only thing about those swords is you don't physically lose a limb, but they sure as fuck will bruise you and break bones.

I was having absolute zero part of that. I just wanted to shop for ribbons and eat food off of bread. Even then my fat future was looking me straight in the eye.

I've always wondered, between the success of the events and the SoCal Ren Faire, things like the Conquest of Mythodea in the EU, and the devotion/money of some of the serious SCA heads.

Why isn't there like, a permanent SCA/LARP/Living History kind of village/town/amusement park.

Tbh I wonder if you look at hard numbers if it actually would be worth it. Like we know lots because we are nerds, but that doesn’t mean there’s enough of those type of nerds to make that profitable.

The King Richard’s faire in Mass. is a huge layout made up of permanent buildings in the woods so you would think they’d just run it year long since they’re just sitting there, but they don’t. Which says to me they know it wouldn’t be worth it.

Friend texts me before we go to California saying they want to revive the Vermont trip we used to do. They were going to talk to their parents about going over Christmas and then we could piggyback and take over the house for New Years.

Saw them Saturday and they started asking if I found anything. Apparently they decided to nix the parents Christmas idea and assumed I would just look for places to stay with no information on who is going or that they decided not to do Christmas up there.

I used to organize it so it falls on me to do everything apparently. I asked if they spoke to anyone else and was told they hadn't. Like, come on. Don't reach out to me saying you want to do a trip, were going to rent a house, and then assume I had done the groundwork based only on that information.
