Except I'm not trying to gatekeep something like food or shelter. I'm a neolib, not a neocon. Insofar as people are unequal (in abilities, not basic rights), benevolent elitism is the best mechanism to ensure coherent governance rather than the war of social groups (whether it be identity or class) that underlies populism. I mean, the GOP's ability to trick and deceive idiots to voting against their self-interest is half the reason they can stay in power; do you really want those sorts of people having more direct influence on governance?

And insofar as we live in a resource limited world which necessitates economic inequalities, I just believe in well-regulated capitalism the best way to distribute those resources given the inherent need for self-interest as motivation for a functional society.

It's not like I believe most ppl in MMOs should sit around and do nothing until they quit after they get to max level. I just believe in merit-based hierarchy, rather than mere luck and time, being the limiting factor in getting gear. Even if that merit ultimately is in some way luck based (being born wealthy enough to have leisure time to play vidya, being born smart and capable enough to not be a potato), it's better than anyone having a chance at something because they repeat an instance ad naseum.
