I could have bought an 11 pull and have 1000 gems left over, but all I got was this silly title.

Star Trek & The Orville - Soft science fiction
    Expanse - hard science fiction
    Star Wars - Space Opera

Though Voyager is kinda space opera when you consider Janeway can pull photon torpedoes from the ether and launch them indiscriminately despite being "limited"

George Lucas also wrote Anakin and Padme's dialogue with the intention that it be a love for the ages. He's not exactly the best storyteller.

sci-fi and fantasy are usually linked together as far as genres go and you can generally debate the two in various ways. the main distinguisher is whether the major elements of the narrative are “probable/explainable/definable” or not

generally science fiction is explainable, even if not probable. so yes, while we currently do not have access to spaceships and laser swords in the way they are depicted in the series, they are at least scientifically possible or explainable, which generally defines it as science fiction. even if it doesn’t seem totally plausible (time travel in the time machine, reanimating the dead in frankenstein), if it seems like there is some probable way to define the existence of the major plot elements, it’s usually fine to describe it as sci-fi

fantasy is when the elements are not readily explainable, possibly more along the lines of supernatural (or religious). generally fantasy work will have its own mythos to explain the “unexplainable” elements of the story, because “science” can’t do this. fantasy generally takes place in its own “universe” as well because of this, as scientific properties wouldn’t necessarily be the same there, which is why dragons can breath fire and not die in the process

anyway you could literally define Star Wars as either. it definitely has elements of science fiction, but all of the force bullshit and lore behind it and its universe could drive it to fantasy also. and no, i don’t think quigon or however you spell that explaining the force as “midiclorians” or whatever makes that much of a difference

anyway thank you for coming to my ted talk

Space Opera is a narrative genre. Hard/Soft sci fi are setting genres.

    I don't think I'd call it sci-fi.
