I'm up to the last Dungeon of Endwalker, just doing the role quests before I finish the story. I think from a storytelling perspective XIV is maybe the best game in the series, but I really miss how complex XI was sometimes.

I'd still rank 6 over it, but otherwise yeah probably. Especially XI S, is just an absolutely fantastic game. I played the original version when it came out and have now been playing S on my Steam Deck the last few weeks, it's such good shit.

Steam Deck specific - I'd recommend just capping it at 30 fps and maxing all the graphic settings. You could do 40 or leave it uncapped but you'll still get frame drops in the cities and some areas, just lock it to 30 and you'll be rock solid. The game doesn't have any tight timing requirements so the added latency shouldn't bother you, and 30fps is easy to digest on a smaller screen like that. And 30 fps cap will give you like 3.5 to 4 hours of battery life

Also - use great sword on the Hero until later in the game when you get a storyline specific 1 hander (it should be eminently clear what weapon I mean if you make it that far).
