Temple of Doom leans too hard into the horror/gross out aspect, and doesn't really have the same balance of humor and lighter elements that defines the rest of the series.

For example watching the millenials react to old movies they love Raiders because fuck nazis and Marion is a strong independent woman who don’t need no man, meanwhile Temple there are no nazis to hate and it’s got a bunch of awful Asian stereotypes and Willie is a useless ditzy blonde that needs constant rescuing

Oddly enough I think Indiana Jones suffers by having other films emulate it but with more modern takes. Ie. Tomb Raider, National Treasure, etc.

Not that those films are as good, just that younger generations probably grow up watching those ones instead.

The Mummy movies are the only acceptable Indiana Jones rip off movies. Never seen National Treasure and you only watch the Angelina Jolie Tomb Raider movies in remembrance of her tits.
