it's hard to say definitively what goes on behind closed doors but by all accounts he's a doting father and his kids adore him. as has been said he dials his attitude up for American audiences, though chefs that have worked with him say the temper is real and he doesn't suffer incompetence in the kitchen lightly (he was noted as a pots and pans thrower when he was younger).

he's said on a personal level his father was an abusive drunk who used to terrorize him and his siblings and beat the shit out of their mom on a regular basis and he swore to himself he would never be that kind of father or raise children in that kind of home.

I was just reading an article on him inspired from this convo and it fits in with what I was reading.

Apparently he isn't giving all his money to his kids when he dies, and his kids don't get too many extra perks being children of a celeb. He and his wife are working hard to make sure they grow up with a normal and grounded life.

More I read, the more stand up he seems to be.


On a note, if you guys never watched his miniseries on building a bakery in a prison, I recommend it. Truly an honorable thing to do there.
