Fast Car is one of my favorite songs ever and i just heard the country version that's trending hot and am glad the song coming to a new generation / different audience of listeners and that Tracy is getting paid. never noticed it before but it really is a country song at heart, alcoholic dad, raised in poverty, drop out of school, shitty partner, dreams of a better life that probably won't ever be realized.

it's almost like there's a commonality of experience among the lower classes of this country that ought bridge the superficial raiment of identity that many exploit to divide

The Aldean song has been in the news frequently so I won’t rehash that one but Wallen became equally famous after he got caught on tape drunkenly tossing out the N word and got “canceled” briefly before he got the chick-fil-a treatment from conservatives and made him even more ridiculously popular

Luke Combs is a good dude though from all accounts

Haven't heard the Combs version but Fast Car is an all-timer

ain't bad. original will always be tops but he's got a solid voice and for modern pop country can't ask for much more. respect that he appreciated the original enough he sang from the perspective of a woman rather than change any lyrics.

i like to run with the belief that artists are capable of being fans of songs just as you and i are. also leaving lyrics unchanged is the easier option with no deliberate actions taken.

i find it silly that you think he respects it enough not to change the lyrics yet choosing to sing it live unprompted regardless of lyrical changes is not enough of an indictor that he respects a song a fair amount
