When I was in college and I would come home for holidays it was nice to catch up with old high school friends but most of them got married and started families and such and now whenever I go home I just end up chilling with my mom and dad for like two days. Which is fine. But sometimes I miss my old friends a little bit.
I don't revisit home at all unless its a family gathering but socials do keep me somewhat in the loop about current events there. My dad likes to start many conversations with "Do you remember (name of person probably 30 years older than me who I ever knew)?" And I'll say no and he'll go "Well, anyway, he's dead." I'm dreading the day he mentions someone I actually DO know.
I haven't lived in Wichita/hometown since I was 18 years old. I'm like 40 now; anyone who hasn't left by now is never going to, and with each passing year, our ships just grow farther apart. I'll stay in touch and be warm whenever I visit but there's nothing for me there. I could prolly delete the ol' bookface with a net gain for my life.
Yeah I keep tabs on my hometown. Tbh I’ve been reflecting with my mom it was a pretty legit town. They are only about 4K people in it, so everyone knows everyone, but we were raised on good values. While I love where I am at in life, I had a very wholesome upbringing, and miss those good times I had there.
I would never live there again though because all the jobs have left and fuck the snow with a molten crowbar.
I’ve realized I suck at making friends because I never needed to. I got the same group of friends I’ve known for 30+ years in a group chat. Another group chat of my battle buddies from my military days. And then there’s BG always keeping me up with the latest on the internets and sports.
The only real thing that sucks is that anyone I wanna hang out with are a 4+ hour drive away.
i hear ya. i had to actively relearn how to make friends when we moved out here. shit's so weird. "hey you wanna be friends?" is like the worst thing ever.
that said, i got some peoples out here now and they're cool as hell.
I was in a weekly wine tasting group here in LA for ~5 years over a decade ago, and those friends are still my local friend group (+ one friend from high school who moved out here)
All it takes is regular in person interaction over time - some say 50 hours as a rule of thumb
And I fully understand how difficult it is to arrange something like that.

alternatively all it takes is a shot line and cigarette and you've got a bff for life (the rest of the night)
damn panda, he said you were easy
Sounds like you could benefit from an app that helps you find people into the same shit you are.

When The Simpsons began I was younger than Bart Simpson. Now I am older than Homer Simpson. Fuck.
damn Homer was supposed to be 34 at series start aging really has changed
He was also supposed to be morbidly obese at like 245 pounds
Wasn't he like 5'8? That's morbid.
oh shit nvm he was 6ft. That's like fat but not FAT.
Burt Young snubbed at the Oscar’s memoriam. This is anti-Italian discrimination.

Damn I'm old, the thing I want most at Costco.com is dining room furniture...

I have no idea why the link ID looks like it is for meat, but it's a transforming dining room table and bench set lol.
