FFXI was over for me the first time I logged in after years away and didn't remember how to make macros or scripts or want to take the time to learn whatever new way of doing it was.

I remember doing scripts in Windower but I completely forgot how and I don't think I know what LUA is but it doesn't matter, I will never play FFXI again.
The shift to LUA scripts and optimizing them definitely prevented me from trying to realistically main a new job. Like Bane said at that point it felt like the game was more about coding than it was actually playing. It was absurd.
If it weren’t for available templates I never would’ve touched that shit from scratch. Fuck that.
LUA was way better then XML, but by the time gear swaps got into the packet level the amount of stuff you need to be fully optimized just started to get not fun.
I never used scripts, at my best I just had macros for TP gear and macros for WS gear. After a while when both the game and myself dumbed down I just stopped putting in the effort entirely and just went with whatever! And you know what, nobody gave a shit and everything was fine.
I can't believe you were one of those...

The game was designed for NIN to be some sort of B-tier RDM too but players were better than that.
i mean, the fact the base game included equipment swapping says it was in fact designed to be played that way
people who played on ps2 still swapped gear... because it was designed in the game
If players can do it and the programmers know about it and don't code it out of the game, then it was meant to be done that way.
for me it was 2 things.
none of my macro hotkeys felt natural to hit anymore and i kept feeling like i was fat fingering everything, and for probably 7 years i would always type out stuff like /ma "name" "spell" or whatever it was, and that i wasn't able to type as fast anymore and kept making mistakes drove me absolutely insane
edit: good god i didnt even write the macro right it was /ma "spell" <t/name>
now even if im zooted outta my mind on adderall ill never be able to enter a flow state like that again and knowing that hurts far too much
I had to play for years with this on PS2, if I fat fingered people would think I was having a stroke with the gibberish I was spittin

never saw that thing before. i had to play with the normal controller and then a keyboard in my lap
or if i was feeling lazy that day i'd leave it on a stool in front of me and not type at all
I was watching a women's volleyball game today, and maybe it's because volleyball has never been my thing, but I couldn't actually just watch the game. The whole time I was just like "COT DAMN I FUCKIN' LOVE WOMEN!"
Pls surround me with 7 foot tall women.
5'8" twinks are also fine I guess.
