Not the Xanatos Gambit, more like villain wants to achieve a certain goal and is thwarted by the heroes, but the result is that the villain's goal is achieved anyway, albeit by less evil means. Cobra Kai is the best example I can think of, but any situation wherein the villain wants an arguably good thing to happen but is doing murder and such to achieve it.

Another good example I found is across 2 different Fire Emblem games where a king wants to have his son killed so that his illegitimate daughter, Guinevere, can inherit the throne. Later, the son kills the king so he can claim the throne, but this leads to the main character fighting and killing the son, whereupon Guinevere becomes queen. The king did not plan for things to happen that way, but ultimately the events he set in motion ended up with his goal attained anyway.

Three Houses is the only FE game I’ve played but I love how each different path is different enough to where you only get the full story if you do all three and if you only do one, which probably a lot of people did because how long the game is, your discourse with others on the game will wildly vary.
