Haven’t seen Stranger Things since season two. So do they do a timeskip? Or do they have the 20something year old actors pretend to still be 12 years old?

There are some very small time skips along the way, but yes by the end it's 23 year olds pretending to be 16/17 year olds
when movies become popular we get sequels and spinoffs and prequels and other nonsense. i have a new proposal to add to the nonsense: movies where the ending is different.
the godfather but michael rejects the family
castaway but hanks never gets off the island
there will be blood but plainview accepts jesus
jurassic park but the park actually turns out to be a huge success
the bad news bears, but they win the championship and buttermaker drinks himself to death after
are these terrible ideas? of course, but so is everything else
Fight Club but at the end the Narrator turns to the camera and says "this was about the horrible ways capitalism and toxic masculinity erode civilization, no character in this entire film is worthy of being emulated, please hug your children. Also blowing up some buildings wouldn't reset credit, you need to get into the cloud servers all the financial data is stored in." Then a penis flashes across the screen and the movie ends.

I feel bad for my mom. She legit is an insanely smart woman. But age is taking a toll on her. She keeps getting suckered into these random YouTube videos that are straight bs.
Today she came to me all excited saying they got Pelosi back and impeached Trump. I figured she found an old YouTube video or something. Looked at her history, nope some strange account making videos with an AI “host” that is clipping together old videos to make it seem like it’s currently happening.
The whole time she seemed so frustrated with me saying, “I’m not an idiot.” And couldn’t believe me that the guy isn’t real.
More reality is she is frustrated with herself. She’s been saying that a lot lately, and I keep trying to reassure her that I know she isn’t dumb and it’s a hard world to live in to know what is true. But I think she is having a rough time accepting that she may not be savvy enough to figure out what is real or not.
I wish I could let it be, and I told her I understand her wanting to believe this stuff. But I am doing my best to have her only go to actual news channels because the things she says mirror the whole qanon stuff just progressive-based. Like at one point she said, “You don’t understand, this video just came out, of course CNN isn’t reporting it yet. This guy knows stuff they don’t even know yet.”
Man not even 3 years ago I’d say she’d never think that way.
Getting old sucks so much.
Age has something to do with it sure, but we also live in a post truth world where it is harder to assess what is true and what is not.
It has got to the point where I need to get a second reputable source, preferably non-partisan like Reuters or AP, before I believe random news stories that are way too good to believe.
Both very true. I think the age issue is the hard time adapting to that thought that you can no longer trust what you’re seeing and need to verify.
I keep telling her to look it up, but the concept of “reading news” to her seems outdated and she things that videos are going to be more current.
When the fuck did the isekai genre become the default for storytelling in manga? It’s annoying as shit trying to find something new to read.
Saw something about the Cassandra complex a few days ago. And then Day came to apologize for years of bad takes and man......
So many cishet white and white adjacent men thought politics was a fun little edgy game that existed in a vacuum and that it didnt actually have any lasting effects. What fun!
When Shi-Fu disrespected Mulan in front of the Emperor after she saved China from the Huns, he was punished with incorporeality. He spent hundreds of years trying to break the curse, eventually assuming the name David Lo Pan.

What are some examples of businesses whose best thing they do is not the main thing they do? For example, cookies from Subway being better than any of their sandwiches
Obscure example, some of the best universities in America are likely the best schools because of networking and alumni relations not necessarily because of the education. The professors are talented for sure, but they are likely researching most of the time and graduate assistants do a majority of the interactive work. Profs lecture then their undergrads spend office hours and workshop sessions with the TA. And they aren't always academically rigorous (rampant grade inflation)
greds example is perfect
can’t remember the name of the article i used to teach at Rutgers but it went over the notion that Wall Street only cared about the name of the school you went to (ivy leagues). most firms would constantly be on their campuses to network because they -only- wanted people from that school
at the end of the day, the “material” you learn from one school to another doesn’t change. there is no tangible difference in the material you learn from an Ivy League, compared to a state school, and in some cases even a community college. the difference is in the talent or experience of some professors to relay that information, but for the most part it is negligible. at the end of the day it’s only the networking part of it that makes those schools elite
AEW, a t-shirt company, is more widely known for their pro wrestling.

That joke is what, 7 years old now?
I'd assume there are still some hardcore WWE weirdos they absolutely believe it.
There needs to be another class of mutants added i.e. Cosmic level because the power scaling ain't making sense anymore.
