Nobody could resist it. Even the most noble would fall to its sway. Tom could resist because it couldn't give him any power he could not already get from nature, plus that lack of desire. Regardless of how much fortitude and willpower you have you have, you'll find a way to justify it. I'm the biggest fucking lawful good shitter IRL. If it landed in my hand, I'd be convinced that I could bend the world to my kind of righteousness. Of course the ring doesn't actually give a fuck about that. It just wants to get back to Sauron and everything you do would be on service of that having convinced yourself that it is the right thing to do.
