With Kojima I can see him just fucking with us and it’s all in good fun. Nah not this motherfucka. Nomura puts pen to paper and genuinely believes his own bullshit and that it’s just 2deep4us.

Lmfaooo 2 is great! One of my favs, but 3 is the perfect metal gear game and 1 plays like an espionage movie and it's just tight and complete.
2 is expanding the universe and adding so much plot wise that it's hard to rank it higher than 1 or 3, even though as a package and in the context of the entire series it's still a great game. Also, expectations for what the game should be about was heavily tainted at the time cause of 1 (and Raiden) and I'm sure that colors my opinion of it.

MGS2 has gotten better over time. People were annoyed at the time with Raiden as the main character over Snake, and 4 did a good job of retroactively making the plot of 2 make sense.
Also, naked cartwheels
Don't listen to them, 2 is where it became clear kojima was a big fan of huffing his own farts.
I assume in his mind his farts smell about the same as the Bath and Body Works Caramel Vanilla lotion I used this morning.
The colonel apologizing for making you pay for lunch because his ex-wife took everything in the divorce will always be one of my favorite wtf moments about 2. The story is so nonsensical and all over place lol.
I do agree though. The hate MGS2 still gets to this day is mostly residual from the bait and switch with Raiden. It's a genuinely fun game.
While not my favorite, MGS4 will always hold a special place in my heart.
My Army CID unit’s logo in Afghanistan used Meryl’s Rat Patrol Team 01 as inspiration for our challenge coin lol.
my only experience with mgs2 was i watched one of my college roommates play it and thought it was stupid and never played it
The twist near the end of MGS2 is the finest piece of "videogames are art" ever executed - subverting the medium itself in a brilliant way.

And it's by far the most "relevant to the future even 25 years later" game ever made

You didn't hate MGS2
you were just 14 and homophobic and thought Raiden was gay

i played MGS2, finished it, it was fine. i was maybe 15/16 and prolly tuned out the story cause i don't recall much of it. i can recall the Raiden switch and being kinda bummed, but it was alright
archi making me think i gotta replay it, what did teenage me miss
didn't ff8 abruptly switch from squall to laguna or whomstever? i think i was more irritated with that one than raiden, when perhaps i was more used to the wtf of a player-character swap
I only ever played the first one. I honestly haven't had a lot of interest in the series.

I had a really annoying friend for a long time and he LOVED Metal Gear games so that may have been a factor.
