Australia is 11x larger than Texas, has fewer people, and 87% of them live within 31 miles of the coast.
There's NOBODY in the middle of that huge bitch.

Nobody except mean fucking kangaroos and growling koalas.
I saw a documentary one time about the interior of Australia and the people and what goes on there. That shit was wild.
Australia is fairly close in size (80%ish) to the continental US, and the size of the desert is basically like if every state not touching a coastline was uninhabitable
The US has lakes, rivers forests an arable farmland and towns less than 100s of miles apart in places that aren't a desert. Imagine if everything from Idaho, Nevada and Arizona was a desert then across to Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas and Louisiana. Nobody would want to live in any of the states on the inside of the listed states. Roads if they exist will probably just be graded roads. Gas stations would be thousands of miles apart and people driving would have several jerrycans of gas and potable water. Transport of materials would probably happen by road trains just like Australia because maintaining actual rails across those distances in a fucking desert would be a nightmare.
No too dissimilar from the nightmare of middle America

I'm sure if you think about it, you can come up with why. If you're white most of the US is your oyster if you want it to be. The outback straight up doesn't give a shit about that though. Keep pretending flyover states are somehow comparable to no water or gas for thousands of miles.
