Bowser is a koopa. Bowser has scales. It can be inferred that koopas as a species have scales. How many reptilian animals do you know with beaks? Koopa's have digits. The digits we see on each arm-like appendage is four. Tortoises have four digits. You could argue that they are a beaked lizard of some sort, but that still has more in common with a fucking tortoise than a hermit crab.

Koopas appear to have a more of a malleable carapace/exoskeleton than scales tbh. Bowser is a koopa canonically I concede, but he is always illustrated as being more evolved in some way and I'm not gonna keep koopas from their truth cause of it. Reptiles don't have beaks, or at least not often, but they often have a beak like protrusion that lets them break out of shells. Also, strong doubt they are cold blooded unless they're one of those weird warmish blooded reptiles which again, strong doubt, as they function just fine in cold weather and hunt in any condition they find a mario in.

Not saying they don't have commonalities with tortoises, but the spine not being fused to the shell is a huge yuge detraction and enough to classify them as a different animal more in common with such shell removing practices.

Your argument was that they had more in common with hermit crabs when they have exactly ONE thing in common with hermit crabs.

On the evolutionary timeline, koopas would be closer related to hermit crabs than tortoises, even if koopa and tortoise evolution led them to develop similar traits.

I'd even go further and say Bowser is lying when he claims to be a koopa. We've seen what grown koopas look like, they're fat and unwieldy, but not bowser looking. We also know what bowser's children look like, which is not even close to a koopa troopa even tho similarities exist. They really might not be the same species

No they'd be lizards that found homes to crawl into. They'd have more with fucking tortoises as reptiles than they would hermit crabs. What are you on mate?

Koopa shells or his own? Bowser has no problem sending lesser creatures to their death.

Them having digits and a beak doesn't make them more related to tortoises when tortoises have a fused spine to their shell, something all tortoises and turtles share but no koopa does afaik. Beaks don't make them more related to reptiles when even animals like octopus have beaks; convergent evolution is a thing

i aint never seen a koopa with a claw, so lets just say that cancels out their ability to come out of their shell, do they look like a fuckin turtle or hermit crab to you?

It's not just popping out of their shell tho, they are specifically illustrated without many of the similar features bowser has like scales, which would lead credence to them being reptiles like tortoises if they had that. They really appear to have more of a carapace situation going on ala crabs, but without a cooked koopa or koopa dissection, it'd be hard to tell. Strong doubt that they are cold blooded by the fact that they still hunt in cold weather too
