Them having digits and a beak doesn't make them more related to tortoises when tortoises have a fused spine to their shell, something all tortoises and turtles share but no koopa does afaik. Beaks don't make them more related to reptiles when even animals like octopus have beaks; convergent evolution is a thing

Now that I think about it, I've been out of the Mario loop for awhile. Are there any humans besides the Kings and Princesses? And I don't remember ever seeing the kings outside Suoer Mario Bros 3. How did Peach and Daisy and Rosalind get there? Are they also mushrooms?
