So convergent evolution only works when you want to use it to dismiss multiple similar features, but not living in a shell.

No, I'm basing it off what's easier to change over time. Your spinal cord changing entire structure happens less frequently than evolving little nubs infront of your mouth and limbs. Evolving additional nubs on your limbs once you have em is much easier moving forward than changing the structure of your spine.

Not impossible of course, but we see far more animals sharing the trait of digits and a beak than what turtles have going in with their spine. I'd argue, am arguing, they likely descended from something that isn't a turtle.

Also I'd like to know if bowser has ever been seen in canon without his shell on.
