In Western nations the idea of being a single generational household is the standard but it's not the only standard especially with immigrants. Multi-generational homes exist and are common long term arrangements.

Gifting when financial feasible is also common too. Just because it's not common for you doesn't mean it isn't common.

How often do relationships end because of cheating or infidelity. So yeah people do have multiple non-ethical partners. Even our parents and their parents generations had multiple families all over town, the country, the world.
