Raised Episcopalian til 13/14ish as well. They were a very nice and welcoming community. One of our pastors (is that the word for Protestant?) was a female and they were also accepting of my aunt who is gay. Not sure why my parents stopped going but we all did. Have had 0 interest in ever returning.

At least Bishop Gomez is doing his best to repair the image of the LA Archdiocese. I hate his predecessor Cardinal Mahoney. My niece got baptized at St. Kateri up on Copper Hill Dr. People seem nice there. I gave it bonus points for being named for a Native American saint.

I'm a CEO Roman Catholic or as my friend calls them, Chreasters. I only went to church for my mom who was really spiritual. I was critical of the greed of the Church when it comes to buying sacraments. I went to Catholic school K-12. Got shoved doctrine and teachings in my daily school life. For confirmation, the LA archdiocese still required all teenagers to go through an 18+ month catechism course regardless of education. Cost a few thousand dollars and it was a rehash of learning everything I learned in school.

Well FUCK that. On a vacation trip to the Philippines, I took a catechism crash course that lasted 4 hours with kids 5-6 years younger than me. Cost $8.75. BOOM confirmed. Hated the general corporate complex of the Church ever since.

I like the general ideas of Catholicism. Just hate the people running it. My godmother wanted a larger purge from the sex abuse scandal. Didn't happen. When I talked to her maybe 10 years ago, she was housing abused seminarians at her compound in San Lorenzo, Makati Philippines. She was wishing hellfire to the fake servants of God or something like that. Don't think Rome was listening to her much.

raised Methodist, small town in the bible belt, sprinkle some shame, a dash of racism, praise jesus. parents stopped going to church, divorced, remarried, i almost never went again (after maybe age 10/11) and was an asshole atheist for HS/college before growing up and ceasing to loathe Christians, even though i still eyeroll at the abortion signs all over Kansas so hard i nearly faint

i suppose now i have at least a modicum of faith in the universe or spirituality though it's not practiced in any particular way. i do take solace at the thought one day long from now all of humans' bullshit and Portland cement will be gone, eroded, and buried

lawls p much, i reject a whole lot of the church's teachings but can't escape wanting to tithe 10% to charity and pursuing the virtues / evading the sins. maybe not a bad thing.
