Ah yeah I kinda wipe that series from my memory. Honestly I think the Klingon War is pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things and is just background lore in so far that TOS wanted a reoccurring villain, Klingons were it. So don't sweat the details of it cause we don't get any that matter lol.

It is impossible to overstate just how great DS9 is. Even as your very first Star Trek series, the only thing you're missing out on is a little bit of context for Obrien and Worf, plus the first episode.

Just be ready for the fact you're traveling like almost 30 years in the past TV wise. Old Star Trek is far more focused on the characters and story being told instead of flashy space battles and action since the budgets of those old series didn't allow for incredibly CGI laser fights, and for the most part have an episodic quality, though there is an over-arcing story in DS9 regarding the Dominion, theres a lot of one-ofs in there too. While I find this a huge positive and it helps you get to know all the characters and get more invested into the series... some people might find it slow or boring.

That said one of the best episodes in the series is in the first few seasons too, the episode "Duet" makes me misty eyed even though I've seen it several times. Please look forward to it™

I feel like you need the context of TNG for DS9. It introduces you to O'Brien and Worf and provides a lot of context for Sisko.

And as stated, TNG isn't great in the first two seasons but it has probably the best individual episodes in the entirety of Star Trek. DS9 is more long term storytelling based, but other than "In The Pale Moonlight" from DS9 (which is pretty much hands down the best episode of Star Trek ever) the best episodes from the franchise are in TNG.

Skipping TNG and never seeing Best of Both Worlds, Darmok, Chain of Command, The Measure of Man, or The Inner Light is a hate crime against Trekkies

TNG is definitely worth it. But I'd pretty much skip the entirety of Season 1/2 or just watch a Youtube recap on them. Personally, this guy does pretty good at summing up the important bits of TNG and has a full recap/summary of Season 1/2 in a relatively short video->

That said, I still maintain you can watch and enjoy DS9 without ever seeing a single episode of TNG, though you will surely miss out on some context of O'brien/Worf/Episode 1's entire starting ground. But if you're game for it, Season 3>Finale of TNG is not at all a bad place to start, even if lengthy. Its good TV and it gives you some nice context for DS9.

Also Thomas Riker. Without TNG, you'll have no fucking clue wth Thomas Riker is.

Oh yeah for sure if you haven't watched TNG you gotta watch that. DS9 pays off so much better having watched TNG too. O'Brian goes thru some shit man haha

It also helps that you know, the lead of TNG is fucking Sir Patrick Stewart.

TNG benefits from having gotten a really well done HD rerelease awhile back. DS9 is stuck behind old dvd rips or questionable quality AI upscales of said dvd versions.

TNG got HD'd so good you can play "Spot the black tiles" they slapped on the Consoles/etc on the bridge in order to block out the lights/glare of the production crew and set.

I didn't hate it. I found a few parts to be a little hard to sit through but overall it was rather well done and entertaining... and there was some absolute gold in there.

I could have bought an 11 pull and have 1000 gems left over, but all I got was this silly title.

Best 25 seconds in all of Star Trek history and the previous episode was the best cross-over too. I think I liked Nurse Chapel's the best but Spock's was the best written.

If I had one criticism of SNW, it's that Uhura feels way too "powerful" for what she was in TOS. She couldn't even speak Klingon by Movie six and this version is practically a god when it comes to anything "communication" related.
