Even in his posted follow up the chief himself cautioned his team to not use that, he can't physically control every person.

I don't harass anyone, its people like you that are the trolling harasser. I'll make a post and out of spite someone will just have to start some shit, if you can't handle it I don't know what to tell ya. You aren't going to bully me off posting.
We don't do it for every video or story as that's where the trail usually dies but we do follow up on some to see the cause or effect of the incident.

I only singled you out because you have a hard-on for those PR moves because they fit your narrative that there is a less violent way, which I'm not going to deny there is, but also because that video is from a couple days ago and that police chief doesn't have the best track record either from what I've read. I saw the same PR stunt in Miami and 2 hrs later the police were letting loose the tear gas and rubber bullets. So forgive me for rolling my eyes extra hard when I see that.

So one of the cops being charged was a rookie apparently? Buddy telling me that at least one was and he has mixed feelings on that. Basically said "yeah if I was a rookie and dude with 20yrs experience on me was doing something...you're taught not to speak up". Entire training is drilled into you to not question that dude with 20yrs. And if you do? They're gonna make your life a living hell because the environment as it is right now is a frat basically. Cops are protective of their own, which I get to a degree, but you gotta weigh in your head "Do I say shit? If I do the right thing here...but they get pissed and 2yrs from now I need backup...are they gonna come back me up? Is my life gonna end down the road because of this one decision?"

Speaks volumes to how cops are trained and why that's one of the main issues that needs to be addressed at the heart of all of this.

I'm just genuinely confused because you can literally block me and magically all the "evil" will disappear. So many fragile egos here.

Not a hard on, I was just posting it because its a feel good story and it shows some of them are trying. Why is that so bad to point out that some people in this horror are trying to do something? OBAMA and others have been trying to say there is a less violent way this whole time, let's be open to different ways to tackle the issue. I also opened discussion to the fact that the defense might mount a case in regards to what was in George's system at his time of death and how they might potentially get these cops off the hook and spur another riot. Nobody even commented on that, they are simply continuing to post anti-police stories and people are labeling that as constructive somehow.

This is one reason why I'm curious if we have anyone on BG that is/has been an officer before. Curious what the training is like, how often they do it, and how often it's updated.

Dont care, let it come out in court. We can have a debate whether peer pressure is an excuse for letting an innocent black man die when you know full well how racist your fellow cops are

And Republicans have done such a number to these communities too. Constantly pushing the message of "The immigrants and blacks are stealing your jobs, your money, they are the reason you're poor. It's totally not that we made you mine all that coal out of the mountain then kicked you to the curb as we make billions. No fight amongst yourselves!"

I'm not a cop, but I believe it depends on the place you're serving. Some have budgets to train often, some train with that "killology" bullshit, and some probably can't afford much routine training as others.

    Just asked him:

Range training throughout the year, return to academy for trianing for 1 day every 2yrs or so.

Apparently SWAT dudes get 1hr paid PT time daily to work out. Which would also probably benefit all cops just in terms of "blowing off steam"

Wow that does seem pretty lax given their job. Hell I have to do training every quarter in the year.

I have to do like several annual trainings for my work in regards to security and a lot of other crap. Granted it's all online and probably eats up a single day as well.

So, a family friend of mine was a cop for 15 years in the neighboring town which is a pretty peaceful suburb. Some shit happened one day with the department that we don't know about and our friend spoke up and called out the cops in question. He was beaten by those and other officers not long after so badly he almost died and was in the hospital for over a month. He ended up having to retire due to it causing permanent damage and he was unable to continue the job. He got a payout, sued the town and such, now lives in Florida on the money unable to speak about the settlement or case.

A rookie cop talking can mean the loss of his well being or even death. The entire system is problematic, the unions protect them tooth and nail, the laws protect them, everything needs to be changed. There are laws so you can't sue cops of they violate your rights. Everything needs changing.

Well, they don't train to put their knees on necks. They don't block airways. They are all trained in cpr and first aid and know to do everything opposite what these guys did.

Yup exactly, i'm not saying "Cops have it worse then black people" or anything but it's evident that the entire system is corrupt as fuck. I know we have BGers in other countries, curious if any are cops and can relay how their shit is setup differently then ours.

It's probably one of the more difficult situations to put be in but you've either got to step up and say something if you're witnessing a murder before your eyes, or leave the force, else you've got to understand you'll become that exact same vet 20 years later. It's a real-time character check and that shit ain't ever gonna be easy to deal with that's for sure. Also it's significantly easier to say than actually do as well so I can understand if this view is callous.

What was in his system at the time of death does not in anyway excuse the actions they took that caused his death given that Floyd was pleading with them and bystanders were yelling at them that the man was dying. One of the cops even asked if they should move him and Chauvin said no so they had a chance to de-escalate and refused it.

A twitter thread the other day said that cops only have a little over half the hours of training as someone who gets a cosmetology license.

Looking it up and most officers complete 840 hours in an academy, cosmetologists need 1500.

I've heard that there are other nations that actually get warnings when traveling to the US about shootings and aggressive police.

Chief gives good ideas on some of the ways to mend the issue from the inside.

I am not disagreeing with you or justifying it. He has to go through a court of law and due process. This is something the defense team will work up based on the ambitious charge they are trying to land. Just a simple topic of discussion, not trying to imply anything. If we all agree these systems are rarely fair, its a probability that he will be let go and given the fervent support of unions. Part of the problem here and what I said earlier that it isn't just the police system where the problem resides.
