I remember this story, I've heard it a few times over life. The message he is trying to layout is nice as well, and I know he is trying to point the message at the protest itself but it is our political system as well.

I'm mainly talking about his use of the word "Dehumanize" because that is what we pretty much have done. The right has dehumanized the left, implying they are non-moral people who want to kill babies and want men to watch their children pee. The left dehumanized the right, implying they are all racists bastards who would let people die before giving up their gun rights. This is because we have switched to a national stage for all politics, nothing is local anymore.

I've said this before, but most of the people I'm friends with are right-wing people. We really don't have any issues when we do get-togethers (Go out on the boat, wine/cheese night, bonfire, etc). We tend to debate and talk politics all the time, without anyone getting mad or upset and can normally come to common ground. This is something we really need more of, but sadly we as a nation won't be able to. We put politics on the national level, we single out our news source, that leads to the dehumanizing of the other side, which leads to conflict without understanding.

The protests have lit a spark that's reached the US Marines as they have now banned public displays of the Confederate Flag. All public spaces to include facilities, vehicles, and clothing fall under the new guidance. Based on the wording, private spaces such as individual barrack rooms and the interior of base housing are exempt to a point (leaders will not just go in and start inspecting). Given that barracks rooms are inspected weekly though, Marines that still want to display it for personal reasons will have to hide it. There's going to be a some vagueness in certain applications when it comes to private property on base so I'm sure barracks lawyers are gearing up to defend their use of the flag on their mudding truck.

edit: Seems the protests weren't the primary cause of the order since the Commandant wanted this implemented since back in February but it only just now is being put to paper. I'm sure the current climate made them expedite it though.

From what I've read, the wording of that ordinance makes it so you can't record near a crime scene but it's written vague enough that a police officer can make anything a crime scene and arrest you.

Mercedes Schlapp, a senior adviser to President Trump’s campaign, boosted a tweet Saturday that promoted a Texas man whirring a chain saw to chase away protesters as he yelled racial slurs.

The man, who waved a chain saw and blurted out the n-word, was seen in a viral video shouting at police brutality protesters in McAllen, Tex., to “move” and “go home” in a profanity-laden tirade as he revved the chain saw. McAllen police arrested the man, according to Mayor Jim Darling.

“Go home,” he shouted six times. “Don’t let those [expletive] [expletive] out there fool you.”

According to Politico, Schlapp had originally retweeted an unedited video of the man yelling the n-word, but after Politico reached out to her and her campaign, Schlapp proceeded to retweet another account that posted a version of the video that muted the racial slur.

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Schlapp is also a former White House aide and her husband, Matt Schlapp, is the chairman of the American Conservative Union.
