They halted fiber expansion in Kansas because Comcast and AT&T like their monopoly of mediocrity too much to let it go. With UVerse essentially owning DirectTV now there's little competition. It forced Google to basically become an ISP and abandon expanding TV as well.

The problem with that is the people in power see budget as their power. Lowering that budget, even if it is for the benefit of their co-workers, they see as losing power. I can't tell you how much fucked up shit I've seen in the government and the people that perform it, just to increase that fucking number.

Having the police from your communities doesn't mean we reduce the police force as they are now. The police, right now, are improperly trained and the entire infrastructure and philosophy needs to be destroyed and rebuilt. Not all at once, but slowly. There are people in every community who want to do good and want to protect their neighbors. Not every kid is a "thug" that is going to grow up to rape and murder (despite but the right wants you to believe).

The "police" force will easily be repopulated once the infrastructure is reshaped and funds are distributed not solely to the militarized occupying army, but to proper treatment, rehabilitation, and counseling facilities.
sorry for long post, a bit of personal experience with ACAB and needed reforms:

I think that any real reform is going to have to include a massive addressing on americas mental health crisis. we've got depression running rampant, an attack on science everywhere, people looking at a growth mindset like it's a sign of weakness instead of strength, and what do our doctors do? drug em up. thats putting a band-aid on a cancerous sore. it doesn't address the root of the issue. we keep prescribing more and more anti-depressants, anti-psychotics, anti-this and that and what happens? the epidemic just keeps growing. and growing. more and more people walking around, wondering whats missing from their life, more and more suicides, because such things aren't "chemical imbalances" that need fixing - they're mental pains that arise from life situations and they're trying to tell you that shit in your life needs addressing.

we need counsuling. we need help and support for people fallen in hard times. we need classes to teach people the basics of logic and philosophy, meditation and mental techniques. we need to teach them how to build their mind, an M.E. just like we have P.E. throughout their education. and one of the biggest tools we can use for this that are getting thrown by the waysides.... nay, demonized, are psychedelics.

if we legalized these, not only would we get less people in jails, but we'd open up a new therapy tool, an incredibly potent one for depression and PTSD, as well as a new tool for addiction treatments. I'm not some hippy druggie addict wanting his legal fix trying to preach here.... as a disclaimer, I have read about psychedelics and their weirdness, how they didn't appear to be nonaddictive or have dangerous effects like other drugs, etc for decades (other than the occasional rumor about LSD, but those were just the typical crap you hear on the internet), but i never really thought much about it or any other drug, other than if i were to ever try any drug at all, it would be psychedelics. (never even smoked or done alcohol.)

cue last year, when i finally decided life was wearing down on me so much that something needed to change. having read all the recent positive studies on psychedelics and how they were one of or the most "positive and most spiritual moments of that persons life", i grew my own shrooms with a spore kit, failed a few times, finally succeded, and tried them, with much nervousness. i figured i might as well at least try and see what the big deal was, because i had been feeling like all my days were slowly blurring into just one blah day over the decades. i figured if nothing else, it might be a little fun, even if it was a fake chemical high t

    HOLY FUCK

that was not anything what i had expected. at all. i had expected the typical cartoony visuals and crazy thoughts and blah blah blah. instead, my first thought was... (the colors are back.) one of my first childhood memories was wondering why everything seemed a bit washed out and dark. during that trip, everything was brighter. not in a cartoony way, but in a vibrant, everything looked gorgeous, perfect definition, every line super crisp, pictures almost seeming to turn 3D sort of way. even the music seemed to have an extra dimension of sound, with tiny nuances i never noticed coming to life. i felt a sinking sensation, like falling into a cool river filling me with energy, and a small voice telling me i'd never have to worry about a bad trip, because i knew already about knowing the importance of going with the flow of life instead of fighting against it. whether thats the case i don't know, but on the future attempts i never had a bad trip.

i tripped for a while over that winter, and here's the thing. one day, i realized while sober... i was happy. genuinely happy. i wasn't talking in a monotone, i wasn't just moving through life, i was joking and joshing and smiling. my life was still shit, but i felt like i was tackling issues that were decades in the making, fighting monsters by night even though i was dealing with the same old grind by day. those experiences i had while tripping... i cannot describe them with mere words, because much of them have no words to describe them. how does one describe the sensation of percieving an extra dimension? how can you explain feeling the universe is just a tiny part of a huge multiverse, like a giant fractal that just keeps going? the joy of feeling the All made One, how everyone and everything is connected in myriad ways?

you cant. this quote from The Witness is the best way i can put it in words, really:

"We have two kinds of knowledge which I call symbolic and intimate. I do not know whether it would be correct to say that reasoning is only applicable to symbolic knowledge, but the more customary forms of reasoning have been developed for symbolic knowledge only. The intimate knowledge will not submit to codification and analysis, or, rather, when we attempt to analyze it the intimacy is lost and replaced by symbolism.

For an illustration let us consider Humour. I suppose that humour can be analyzed to some extent and the essential ingredients of the different kinds of wit classified. Suppose that we are offered an alleged joke. We subject it to scientific analysis as we would a chemical salt of doubtful nature, and perhaps after careful consideration we are able to confirm that it really and truly is a joke. Logically, I suppose, our next procedure would be to laugh.

But it may certainly be predicted that as a result of this scrutiny that we shall have lost all inclination we ever had to laugh at it. It simply does not do to expose the workings of a joke. The classification concerns a symbolic knowledge of humour which preserves all the characteristics of a joke except its laughableness. The real appreciation must come spontaneously, not introspectively.

I think this is a not unfair analogy for our mystical feeling for Nature, and I would even apply it to our mystical experience of God. There are some to whom the sense of a divine presence irradiating the soul is one of the most obvious things of experience. In their view, a man without this sense is to be regarded as we regard a man without a sense of humour. The absence is a kind of mental deficiency. We may try to analyze the experience as we analyze humour, and construct a theology, or it may be an atheistic philosophy...

But let us not forget that the theology is symbolic knowledge, whereas the experience is intimate knowledge. And as laughter cannot be compelled by the scientific exposition of the structure of a joke, so a philosophic discussion of the attributes of God (or an impersonal substitute) is likely to miss the intimate response of the spirit which is the central point of the religious experience."

incidentally, i haven't tripped for a year now, ever since i took too much dmt. turns out that converting dmt from freebase to the fumarate salt makes it much MUCH more bioavailable. my body seems to need more psychs than most peoples to trip, so i was taking like 250 mg of the freebase form to trip, so when i tried the salt form to see if it was less nausea inducing like i heard (psychedelics can cause nausea at the come up, especially dmt...particularly for certain delicate flowers like me), i took about 300 grams cause the salt form is heavier so i thought id need a bit more... bad. mistake. blacked out from too much. now, psychedelics are pretty safe in the sense that even if you take way too much you're not likely to die from it, but you can black out if you take way too much, and that's what happened here. roommates wondered what the noise was, found me confused and called the ambulance, police came, because of course the damn police come for these sorts of things, and questioned me. or should i say, interrogated me. i fully understood then the whole "anything you say can and WILL be used AGAINST you in the court of law. they are not your friends. they will use bullshit questioning tactics to get you to sound guilty. they don't care about the truth, just about getting you to look guilty. after one month of terror and having a panic attack every time i hear a siren later, i get a knock on my door and yes, the police are here to arrest me and take me to jail. no one was injured, or even close to it (i came around when the EMT came, and while i struggled to understand what they were saying, it sounded like they had a huge reverb effect, i was pretty relaxed and in a peaceful mood, if rather confused what was going on.), but i got clapped in rather unpleasantly tight handcuffs, hauled to a car and pushed in the back of a police car and forced to lie on my side because there's no way to sit properly in the back there, or even wear a safety belt, or air conditioning for that matter, and hauled off to jail.

psychedelics honestly were probably what kept me sane at this point. if not for the mental housecleaning and fortitude they'd given me, and the hefty dose of levity, i'd probably had handled it badly, but instead i'd kept my humor and good temper, even when i had to strip naked and lift my goddamn balls for the police officer. even when i had to wait in a holding cell for 8 hours in a cold holding cell with no pillow or blanket and a building migraine, and a crappy dinner i couldn't eat because it was so processed my body rejected it as food. seriously, frozen dinners are more real than that crap. KOOLAID is more real than that grape juice powder they give out. then it was just in time to get dressed, but no shower, for a hard bunk bed with a too thin pillow and a very much screaming migraine with no tylenol and a cop who kept shining a ridiculously bright light directly in my eyes every 45 minutes all night.

followed 8 hours later by a double sided migraine and a crappy breakfast i couldnt eat cause it was shit, and blissfully, a book, The Martian, i could distract myself from the pain with. the other immates were nice enough, they thought i'd probably be gone that day as soon as the judge saw me, and i got through the book easily enough. (it was amusing.) turns out they were right, and i got out without bail because i was too poor for bail. over the months i got my hearing, had my fines set at 2600, 10 hours community service, and 6 hours probation then reduced to $240 in fines (court fees), no community service, the probation, and the crime off the public record by the judge after pointing out that i felt i didn't deserve to be jailed at all, as no one was harmed, that psychedelics have high medical potential, that alcohol kills over 100,000 people in the US a year alone, that cigarettes kill over 400,000 people a year, and that psychedelics kill less than one person a year - that it's so low that there's not even a proper statistic for it. I think i made a bit of an impression with him, because the public defender said that wasn't something he normally did.

During that time of probation, i didn't get the "psychedelic shakes" or anything. it's more like "goddamnit i wish i could trip again" like "goddamnit i wish i could play ffxiv", or "goddamnit i wanna go to disneyland". it's fun and amazing and you wanna do it but it's not something overwhelming. you just do other stuff, no biggie. that said, it was good in its own way - i've noticed i've slowly been feeling more and more artistic urges. i've been getting a bit more into origami, and i'm starting to wonder if maybe i could possibly learn to draw. i kinda want a stylus tablet, lol. as it was i did origami as a kid and i was amazed at how much better i'd gotten since then... i was like ok, here's a crane, here's an hourlong eagle tutorial, here's a 4 hour tiger tutor.... wait WHAT!?!? and yet i did it LOL. granted it's hardly a perfect tiger but still:

but anyways. i've had a taste of how warped our police system is. it's like amputating a limb every time you stub a toe. all the immates i met in there were there for petty crimes, mostly drug related crap like weed and coke, or minor theft. 3 were black. this is in a town where blacks are an extreme minority. lots of people of irish descent, some native american, lots of white in general, and much of the rest comes from college kids coming from the university. i want to say racism isn't much of an issue in this town, nor are the cops that bad here... and i suspect they aren't, but i also feel we could do much better than we're doing. i mean... if THATS a taste of one of the better jail systems, i don't even want to think how a corrupt jail is. that's...that's not how to treat criminals. they need justice. not wanton torture. justice involves teaching a lesson, to help a person grow better as a person.

no one can grow better as a person in such foul, corrupt conditions, where the food is poison, where a cop shines a light on your face every half hour at night, where your humanity is degraded and your locked in a box with no tools for mental growth but one or two much battered books that probably don't get changed out much.

we treat dangerous animals in a zoo better than that.

Psion does baby psychedelic drugs in safety of own apartment.
Roommates call for ambulance cuz they don't know he is doing drugs and worry about him.
Cops come and handcuff him, put him in the back of a wagon, and take him to lock-up.

Entire situation could've been solved by letting him be treated by medical professionals and issuing a summons for use of an illegal substance. There is absolutely zero need for it to have happened how it did.

Psion is crazy, yes, but his story is relevant here to one of the central problems we're discussing.

honestly, couldve been avoided entirely if they were legal - i couldve just told my roommates i was tripping and they wouldve just known to just let me chill. they knew what oral dmt was and that it was safe, they wouldn't have bothered calling the EMT in the first place if they had known... but obviously you usually don't tell other people you're doing schedule 1 drugs. <.<

or the situation couldve been avoided if they were legal and more info was known in the first place. i had no idea that the salt form of dmt was more easily processed by the body than the freebase form...because not much is known about psychs in general because so much is hush hush about it, because you know, they're illegal and not well studied. the only reason there's not so much issues is because the LD-50 of the things is so ridiculously high that it's pretty damn hard to kill yourself on the things. something like having to eat 7 lb of dried shrooms to maybe kill yourself. good luck cramming that much in your stomach lol.

We shouldn't derail this specific thread with drugs and stuff, there's a thread for that. But I do want to say to you Psion that you should never be tripping alone or without at least 1 other person knowing. That's not good bud. Don't do that.

No need to respond to this. Just take the lesson and file it in your head.

Exact reason I don't fuck with psychedelics. Almost everyone I know (locally) are shitheads that would rather me be hurt for laughs than be a trip sitter.
