Most fire and all EMS don't get those same benefits. Which comes back to what archi said
Big truth. There's a million things that could be done that keep police employed, keep people safe, and transition more into healthcare, education, mental health, etc.
My dad was Tier 1 too, I just missed it but I'm Tier 2 at least.
Yeah I definitely didn't forget but a lot of people don't realize that. They retire full pension benefits and whatever package and work security or another civil service job and double dip.
Also the law that makes it so you are unable to sue an officer who violates your rights needs to be gone.
https://old.reddit.com/r/ProtectAndS...n_this_job_if/Verified LEOs, would you stay in this job if Qualified Immunity is eliminated and your department budget is cut (let's say 30% budget cut)
"I won't do my job if I can get sued."
Someone else will.
If no one is responding to calls, what kind of power would the unions have? The main power play they have is to pull them from doing work... if they are already not performing their job, that takes away the union's power.
Edit: I'm sure there is other things they can do, but I'm not educated enough on the power of the unions to know.

Roberts take the wheel
actually dang it's Clarence Thomas calling for review. as long as none of the liberal Justices defect off we go, to at least a less expansive form of qualified immunity.
We'll see if they actually decide to take up any of those cases or not. It's interesting that the concept is court-created though, not from legislation.
yee i know Roberts hates judicial activism (or at least the appearance of it) but he's rather plugged in politically and i don't see the Court allowing such a pressing issue to remain untouched given their predecessors are the cause of it. but perhaps the votes simply aren't there among the liberal bloc.
