I'll play little devils advocate and say that, the fear of being sued in our current American climate is a pretty huge concern honestly. Especially for anyone in public sector service like a cop, doctor, EMT and what not. People are fucking sue happy as shit in this country and our legal system makes it a nightmare.

Integrity is crucial to law enforcement, and knowing you’re not going to be sued by every person who has a beef with you is what enables individual officers to do their job with integrity. It’s part of what allows us to be honest and admit to errors.
Getting rid of qualified immunity will result in bigger, stronger police unions. The so called ‘circling of the wagons’ problem will become an actual problem. Honest law enforcement officers will quit when they are sued into poverty over a simple mistake. Those who remain will quickly learn to lie to cover themselves.
Is that what the people want?
There are already mechanisms in place to revoke qualified immunity on a case by case basis. The system works.

Current protections are too much but there should be something there to give a level of protection and not require cops to pay for their own insurance while keeping their pay at the same level. Pay them a lot more and make it more specialized and require them to carry their own insurance or pay into company insurance program with better guidelines...but i'm sure that would drift towards corruption in some areas very quickly as well.

The threat of being sued keeps me doing my job right because I know if I did anything right the case will get thrown out.

I'd largely say this is one of those instances where body/car cams are for the cop's benefit. However, cops also can't be in control of where the video is sent to avoid it being lost or edited.
