No, I was pointing out that cities respond to homelessness by finding ways to criminalize it rather than finding ways for people to not be homeless.

HAHA lights don't mean shit to them. I've walked by guys with their hands out begging while alseep. Shit is amazing.

I'm jaded on this, as I've worked in Detroit for 5+ years now. Sometimes i just want to walk to Starbucks for a coffee without 10 people begging me for money in the two blocks i walk to get there. Same people every day, for years. At some point you just stop caring, as when i 1st started working there i would give a lot.

"Housing first" homelessness policy was one of the best things the Bush administration did. Cops and hospitals save money not policing and treating the homeless, it's very effective. Salt Lake City had the biggest success with it.

But you need to fund it, and governments are often pennywise/pound foolish about these things.

There was a good Adam Ruins Everything episode about how effective subsidized housing would be for treating the homelessness problem and save money overall.

its been the exact opposite situation here. now that this city has boarded up almost all of their subsidized housing, or turned them into student residences, and built up dozens of homeless shelters absolutely everywhere crime has plummeted. its been complete shit on taxes tho
