For me it's a sign that people recognize the issue did not begin and is not likely to end with the death of George Floyd.

It's not an A OR B thing. You can have A and B. The fact that cities are suddenly willing to work with the requests of the people with respect to these monuments is a good sign.
Mississippi state legislators are pushing a bill to change the state flag, the last one in the union with the Confederate battle standard on it. Over 20 Republicans have signed on.

"Heritage, not treason! We shouldn't be arrested for treason against the U.S. for supporting Confederate (Traitor) ideology, because we're just showing our pride!"
have you? you have an opinion on this subject but have you ever been homeless? how exactly are you able to have an opinion without being homeless? you have an opinion on george floyd too for that matter, without being either black or a police officer.
this gottem moment you seem to think is genius is the one of dumbest posts i've seen on bg. its absolutely moronic
an asshole question gets an asshole response. the post he was quoting of mine had absolutely zero malice towards anything or anybody at all but he choose to be a dick. he can be a big boy and take it right back
i could get into the weeds of asking this moron what he personally does for the homeless community, at all, to think his shit doesn't stink. while also lay out all the charitable works/events/hours i personally put towards the homeless community in my city, but i'm not going to do that.
Answer the fucking question dude. Have you ever been homeless?
Edit: and I'm a shrink who used to run a free clinic, I do a lot for the homeless community you uppity prick.

listen dick. this is now the third time in the span of two weeks you've come at me, completely out of the weeds, with a "are you <insert classification here>?" post. literally three times of the exact same shit. which, fyi, has no other purpose other than to be a dick. the other two times i was civil. on asshole attempt number three i'm going call you out on your bullshit.
are you a writer? if not stop posting
Cool. So you've never been homeless?
I mean, you think I'm being a dick, but you could just answer the question.
At first I thought you were being a huge ass towards the homeless and that maybe I could elucidate what being homeless in America is like. You see, I have homeless family members and I have treated numerous homeless patients and they would literally rather be in jail than be homeless and going through shelters. When someone called you out, you made it your business to explain you worked in a shelter and made a snarky remark like homeless people would just love to go camping and I wanted further clarification.
People here in the states get beaten, raped, and worse, whether in shelters or streets, so shelters are 100% a band-aid and not the answer.
But if your asshole responses are you being civil, I'm curious what will happen if I asked you one more time. So go on, be non-civil now. Asshole.

I'm not one to talk when it comes to derailing threads but maybe this isn't the best place for this lol.
Country Music Band Lady Antebellum is changing their name to Lady A because of the Antebellum style house being associated with plantations.
Fuck COPS, my friend got killed by police while working on that show
What the fuck
i've been homeless! o.o/ (both times because the person i was going to take the lease over had their own rental agreement fall through, which meant they had to cancel their own move out on me, which left me without a place to move into for a month until i found a new place. not fun. stick to new leases.)
as far as cultural heritage goes, i can sort of see why people might want to preserve such things but... honestly, they're just statues. only a few hundred old statues at that. they're not some roman masterpieces from da vinci or anything, and if there's anything there that's REALLY of historical significance, they can go in a museum or something in some dusty corner where they belong, with a placard describing the controversy around it or something. or in storage. out of sight of the general public. unglorified. for a few hundred years at least, until racism is DEAD, until all the old fucks are buried in the ground and the hatred has passed over and children go hand in hand without thinking about the color of each others skin or the texture of their hair.
then those statues will just be artistic pieces with no real bite left behind them, just dead works of art again, the malign magic that inspired racism around the country their metal confines. kids will just stare at the horsies and the old fucks riding them and go "eh, this piece is ok, i wanna go see that weird modern piece over there again though" and move on. like the rest of history.
Ban them from places of public display and sell them to private parties. If some dumb lost cause idiot wants to pay a bunch of money to keep it in storage until the south rises again so be it. Donate the proceeds to the community.
I've talked about it here before, but he was a sound recorder for the film crew, they responded to a robbery in progress at a Wendy's, he ran in with the camera guy, the robber (armed with a pellet gun) ran towards him at the door as the cops shot at him, hit my friend (we were classmates in grad film school at U. of Miami) in the armpit so it missed his bulletproof vest, killed him.
Cops fired 36 rounds, despite obviously other people around the fleeing target.
