So my town getting kind of lit up right now... huge car accidents and crews can't get in because all the protesters. Some reports of gunshots/a victim... but also tons of fireworks so hard to tell on some. Actual fires and smashing windows but seems not looting. Multiple areas including at the freeway right across my street... and some teargas going. Get to see some livestream of it too nice. Interestingly enough anti lockdown protesters were protesting along side them during the day time

all of the ostensibly legitimate forms of redress have been completely ignored. people vote, people go to work, people protest peacefully, and all the while, states continue to sanction the brutal murder of minorities and grant absolute impunity to those who commit said murders. nevermind the multigenerational social & economic immiseration of those minorities. the system has spoken; civility gets you nothing at best, and dead at worst. there is no other path but incivility.

The bay area has been fucking weird with the protests. Almost entirely, protests of these sort have two hot spots. San Francisco and Oakland, with smaller ones in area's like San Jose, Richmond, etc. The past few days it's been Emeryville, San Jose, Santa Clara as the hot spots, with smaller protests in Oakland/San Francisco.

That said, way things are going, I am expecting Oakland to fully erupt tomorrow.

What's the alternative? Let people burn their rage out, go back to exactly status quo, rebuild for 2 weeks, and start it all over again when the next white cop straight up murders another citizen? Because it will happen. It's not an "if", it is a "when".

I'm not gonna sit here and truly say "BURN IT ALL DOWN" but "okay hey let's calm down and be peaceful" has literally never worked here. It hasn't changed anything. If I was a young black man in this country I very well might be in favor of keeping my foot on the gas until either something changes or I get killed. We'll never know. I'm neither young nor black.
