Oh let me add Black Lives Matter. I was pretty firmly in the All Lives camp before getting put in my place.

They must get something from it or they'd block him lol.
Still, sometimes, good conversation do happen here. Its best not to paint with broad strokes because there's always examples. Sometimes, minds are changed, or at the very least Ideas are exchanged even if both parties walk away still believing what they came into the conversation believing. Some of BG is capable of questions, I've asked questions before and have gotten informative answers, and I'm not a Democrat, am openly anti-"Progressive" in many places, and often disagree with the standard BG political leanings. I've done my fair share of shit disturbing too, but even I have examples of cases where people have engaged in an honest discussion with me... though I'd be lying if I said I wanted to dig through my post history to find them :\
Yes, some few people are just here to troll. No matter how politely you question an assumption, disagree, or ask for a better understanding, they will push you, poke you, insult you and troll you and when you snap they'll use that as justifications for their actions and for all future arguments against you as to why they "Dont take you seriously". You just gotta identify and ignore the ones who do this shit because their goal is to get a reaction from you.
Personally, as an example, I respect Byrth's level-headed take in most if not all interactions I've had with him even if we don't agree on everything.
Can you tell me which way your minds changed? I.E For/Against? I'm not trolling you here, I'm just genuinely curious.
No worries at all. I grew up in a fairly conservative house in a Catholic family. A lot of my views were archaic.
Clinton - was firmly anti-Clinton until archie filled me in on her history and policies, then I researched the rest and decided anti-Clinton people were full of shit.
Transgender issues - milkster was the most recent but prior to this I thought transgender dysphoria was a legit mental illness, then I became a psychiatrist and realized that was also full of shit. totally against in my 20s, in my 30s I'm 100% for and firmly state to this day if I wasn't married I would date a transgender female. With regard to sexuality I've even wondered if I was bisexual or not, but do not find myself attracted to men (what is that, bicurious?).
Feminism - believed feminism was anti-male, through conversations here realized that position was also bullshit. I also was totally ignorant of things like cat-calling and what constitutes consent, how women should let men do things, the idea of mansplaining, all that came from this forum and subsequent real-world interactions.
Bernie Sanders - I was 100% pro-Bernie and through this election season and this forum realized he's a political idealist (NOT A SITH LOL) and nothing more. He has ideas, but lacks the ability to unify people behind them.
OWS - I was pro-protest and believed OWS would change everything, many people here tried to talk me out of that shit and then in retrospect I realized it accomplished nothing largely for the same reasons Bernie doesn't - people aren't actively engaged they're just shouting at what needs to be done without actually doing anything.
Others:
Gay marriage - was totally against, once I separated my views from my family and read forum posts here that changed.
Economics
Most importantly, I saw the world in black and white before BG and wasn't very open to reasoning at all. Between that, marriage, kids, and med school, I started to realize the importance of seeing things from others' perspectives and of questioning your own beliefs and their validity.
I just don't have much tolerance for stupid unfounded shit. That's probably the only thing that hasn't changed and will likely be the death of me.
I'm pretty open myself, I typically was very left leaning in the past and not as open to difference in opinions. After having worked my way up, from obscure neighborhood in Brooklyn, struggling along the way to where I am self-employed with various businesses and living in the heart of NYC, I started to change a lot of my views. One of the main reason it fills me with so much to disgust to see rioters destroying peoples hard earned businesses and justifying it with stupid reasons. Slowly a lot of my views have become more centric and I really wouldn't consider myself fully left or right tbh. I am always open to others opinions though and don't mind a healthy debate. I never agree with outright personally attacking people and I've been humbled many times to edit posts or stop if I realize I'm wrong or mistaken. Nothing wrong with reevaluating your position when you have more information and facts.
I will say this, editing posts to change your opinion is generally the wrong idea. Make a second post, clarify and state your mistake. Editing stuff just makes it seem disingenuous, regardless of your actual intent.
I guess I worded that incorrectly. I meant in the process of posting I've stopped and changed it to something else to not sink to some levels certain posters do. I don't mean I ninja edit posts afterwards, I usually reread my posts many times before I confirm them.
I wouldn't know because instead of a discussion earlier, you just jumped in to directly attack me. Funny how that works, we could have had a common ground on something and talked about possible reasons why my opinion might be flawed in your viewpoint. Something a lot of people here could seem to do but they don't. Well, normally its all good in this section but this is a very serious topic that is causing a lot of hurt in the world right now.
And yet you've jumped on 90% of board as an echo chamber you have to disperse.
Yes. They disgust me.

You need to expand whatever media coverage you're taking in. I've seen pmuch everything on both sides reported on.
Ya, they're all biased. On both sides. So you do get the full story if you choose to listen.
Basically take your own advice and pay a little more attention to what both sides are reporting on.
Also, move on from Kuro. Unless you really think that you'll somehow get through to a shit poster that thinks you're the absolute scum of the earth if you disagree with absolutely any of their views.

Nice projection there, sport. You must have me confused with someone else.
I don't think anyone is scum for disagreeing.

I don't give a shit about anyone else's political leanings one way or the other. Actually, that's not 100% accurate. I might think more or less of someone depending, but at the same time I keep that shit to myself. That said, if you come to a forum like BG acting like you're on a quest from God himself to save it from the trolls, when in fact this is how BG has literally always been, you're gonna piss people off. So don't be surprised when they react accordingly.
Thanks for the information, I may not agree, but I'm happy to see when someone gathers information to form their own view on things. As a side topic to yours here, I've always been pro-Gay Marriage and Gay rights myself, as my mom is gay (Thankfully, she discovered this and came out after my birth... yay), I've grown up with a pretty conservative father and a pretty left-leaning mother. Mom always votes Democrat, think my dad just thinks all of them are too stupid to tie their own shoes, don't really know who he votes for but he also hates Trump *shrug*.
As far as not believing in unfounded dumb shit, I'd personally keep that trait. Question everything, its the best way to learn.
Not surprised, I just tried to remain civil until the point I realized it was useless. I figured its a really important topic and we could discuss, instead I was met with the hivemind. Now I'll just brazenly say my piece like all the other scrubs. So don't be surprised either. I don't claim to be on a quest from God, but I'll be sure to try my best to not let it be an echo chamber. No more looting!!
FIGHT THE POWER!
Do you even read the shit you write? I'm convinced the only reason people don't block you is because laughing at you is the best.
Does it just burn you up inside Elcura? Tell the class. I'm laughing at them too, don't worry. For anyone else, the block button is always available and I promise it won't hurt me.
