The ideal is to have a society where cops don't need firearms like Japan.

Or maybe we shouldn't fire cops who do the right thing

SI interviewed WWE's Mustafa Ali about the current situation since he used to be a police officer near Chicago and quit because of the problems within.

Or maybe it's because without guns in the population there is no need for guns for the police.

Also the idea that homogeneous populations are key to peace means the problem would be... wait for it... racism!

gred my dude do you really believe the us population will give up their guns? it's too much a part our culture and history. there will always be a large enough portion who won't give it up. so the comparison to japan just doesn't work.

The point of stricter gun laws isn't to stop the problem today. It's to reduce the number of available guns over time so the problem gets better over years. Make weapons harder to obtain nationwide, and actually buy back weapons from people at a reasonable rate, and maybe in 10-20 years(or longer who the hell knows) we have less shootings.

Saying ideas are bad because they won't fix the problem right now, is a trap. Shit takes time to change culture.

Edit: Sorry for the OT post, I usually just lurk here but i figured it needed to be said.

Fact is the US has a serious gun problem because they allowed the likes of the NRA to dictate thing's (and buy out politicians). More guns doesn't make people safer it drastically increases the amount of clusterfuck situation's as well as drastically amplify problems expecially in urban enviroments. Hell the fact that the US has more gun fatalities than any other country that's NOT a warzone speak's volumes of the ongoing problem. I wouldn't have any issue with those living in remote area's having guns like farmers etc as police responce out there is much slower due to distance but they're absolutely not needed in an urban enviroment they only create more problems. The real problem though is until the US politicians either get enough will to tackle the problem that's the 2nd ammendment or there's a massive public outrage to force expecially republican politicians to reconsider their stance this issue will continue to plague America itself. 2nd ammendment was written back in the 1700's when most of the continent was a wilderness and Britain was the leading power. It's completely outdated in todays enviroment, at the very least it should be changed so to own a gun would at least require formal training in a field (National Guard, Police, Miltary etc) and not be an automatic right to own a military grade weapon for civilian's.

This. To just say "nah, too much history there so let's keep writing bad history," is fucking asinine.

You gotta play the long game. It could take a couple of generations, but it absolutely can be done and we would see small gains in the process.

I'm sure people said the same things about slavery.

Just because something is part of culture and history doesn't give it a pass on the smell test. If its shitting up your society it needs to go.

a bit of a moot point on gun control talk today, between COVID-19 and BLM/Antifa riots new owner gun sales are up through the roof in America. It's gonna be a dead issue for foreseeable future.

This is funny because Japan is racist as fuck. If you want clear examples of institutional racism in a developed country, look at Japan.

    Wooooosh.

That's the very point. If the only reason people can't tolerate robust social welfare programs to help each other like in the Nordic countries is that those countries are all white, then the problem isn't the concept of welfare it's the people being racist.

If the only reason cops need guns for their own safety is because the population isn't homogeneous, then the problem isn't the diversity of the population it's the cops being racist.

Just saying the UK is plenty diverse and our cops don't habitually choke people to death or shoot folks.

I mean, we're not perfect, and you're setting a ludicrously low bar, but we're managing to clear it with plenty to spare.

lmao that's the kind of deductive reasoning I'd expect from the left sadly. Aristotle rolled in the grave.

Yes diversity is to blame for social welfare failing rather than people being racist and not wanting to help people who don't look like them.

How could I have been so blind
