Seems a demo will be announced too
Today at The Game Awards, Square Enix and Luminous Productions debuted a new trailer for their upcoming title, Forspoken and announced the immediate release of a free* playable demo for the game on the PlayStation®5 (PS5™) console. The demo allows players to experience the unique magical enhanced combat and parkour ahead of Forspoken’s January 24, 2023 launch.
The trailer provides a deeper look at the devastating effects of the Break, a powerful and mysterious force that corrupts everything it touches, including the inhabitants of Athia and the Tantas, the once benevolent matriarchs who now rule the lands as evil and maddened sorceresses.
Players will experience the corruption first-hand in the demo and can expect to face-off with a variety of enemies and test their fighting abilities with an extensive arsenal of attack and support magic that will prepare them for the high-octane action they will encounter when the full game launches next month.
The Forspoken Demo is available now for download on the PlayStation® Store.
Players can also tune in to see new gameplay during the upcoming Forspoken stream on December 9, 2022 at 10:00am PST / 1:00pm EST with Ella Balinska as she dives deeper into the world of Forspoken with new and exclusive gameplay footage.
Designed for PS5™, Forspoken will harness the full power of the console and demonstrate Luminous Productions’ philosophy to provide a gaming experience like never before, fusing together the latest technology with creativity. Forspoken will launch simultaneously on the PS5™ and PC (via STEAM®, Microsoft Store and Epic Games Store) on January 24, 2023.

Ehh, I played the demo a bit and I must say it doesn't play as fun as it looks...
Controls are clunky, magic system is visually nice, but feels like there's no real depth to it, just different animations. Game looks and runs good, but the world is mostly barren. UI/UX is not working for me, once again, like Star Ocean, we have small fonts that are hard to read when there's so much happening on the screen, too much text coming and going fast on the screen etc
Similar take away. I only played for about an hour to get a feel for it all. The parkouring is fun, but super inconsistent when it comes to climbing. UI, specially the tiney tiny white circles for items, is really not working for me.
For combat, as interesting and cool as the spells could be, I just found myself swapping to fire magic and using the sword mostly. I usually have good situational awareness in games, but there are so few tells letting you know where enemies are in a fight. I had more than a few times that I'd just stand there slow panning to find the last mob. I don't know if it was my PS5 or the game, but I fought some water matriarch on a bridge and frame rate took a very noticeable dip anytime the water effects, which didn't even look that great, showed up.
I don't know if it was a bug or a mechanic that I didn't understand, but I kept having situations where my magic type would swap back over to the earth magic without me hitting R1+L1, it was really annoying.
Still planning on getting it I think. I see enough potential to not bow out, but very well may find myself let down.
I tried the demo and only lasted about 20 minutes. This is just not for me. The combat feels very spammy. You either just hold charge or press the same button over and over. The parkour was okay at best but pretty much what I expected. Looks great in a trailer, does not play great. That was concern from day 1 and always is whenever studios say "You can do all this crazy shit". I am glad they put out a demo and hopefully there are people who enjoy it but I won't be picking it up.
looks bad plays bad
Game needs serious work. Controls are a mess and shouldn't be considering how few buttons it requires to do anything.
I downloaded and played it. Recording to my stream below (no cam no comment)
- Was the game hyper contrasted to anyone? Even the recording came out as such; I thought it was just my TV! I didn't tweak the settings though
- Bits of FFXV DNA left in there. When meleeing I felt like Noctis slashing. Also the item pick up button is not sharing the same jump button this time around lol. When casting a spell I felt like I was in FFXV too (having to awkward aim/throw the spell out)
- Why do I need to additionally pick up the item after I open a chest lol
- Controls and combat feels clunky. After I discovered how to melee it was just that much easier to melee everything down. See my gameplay at the last 5 mins of the video, I rush down the extra boss simply meleeing and rolling, at this point I just wanted the demo to end and no longer wanted to play. I felt a bit like a pro though
- The tutorials to teach you to ... gap close/roll came WAY too late into the demo, it should've been part of the basic combat before they let you run around! Tutorial only taught you how to use the range spell set.
- Character doesn't seem likeable. Nor is my Jarvis
I lost my fucking FFXV DLC for this?! Is what I was thinking while playing, haha
This annoyed the shit out of me lol.
Definitely feel the leftover FFXV feel to this. Unfortunately it seems to have taken on all the bad parts. Controls are clunky as fuck. I think I was getting the hang of them a bit more right as I was finishing up the demo, but i only did the main objectives and didn't bother with more. Didn't even get the second tutorial you mentioned.
I want this game to be good but I definitely feel like this could play a lot better than it does.
I suppose for now there is little to no context of them for me, besides what I was shown in trailers/ads, so I didn't feel any particular positivity for them!
