I'm someone who doesn't put a lot of expectations on games I'm ambivalent towards and I decided to give this game a try because it caught my attention awhile back.
Gameplay is always gonna be my number one and I had a lot of fun with the options presented to me. I never felt like there was anything I couldn't do. Game is responsive as hell when you really understand what you're doing. Gameplay being clunky is an inaccurate statement. Protagonist feels like she has actual physics applied to her so momentum is slightly applied to her movement giving that weighty feel. I hate to even say that because once you actually start fighting, she's nimble as hell. She also has hella options to approach a confrontation which makes me believe the gameplay in the demo is not from the beginning of the game (I could be wrong, I've not looked at any information on this game.)
Switching between long range and short range I will agree is not as smooth as it could be but it's not in such a way where I felt like I lost control of myself. How bad that can possibly get unfortunately remains to be seen. Majority of the time, when I got punished was because I kept attacking when I should've dodged. It's not hard to avoid attacks. A lot of the time when you need to switch to long range, you should be moving backwards to begin with so you can actually aim due to long-range requiring you to depend on a targeting reticule. You can also lock-on but I'd personally only lock-on for short-range mode.
Main reason I'm predicting that this game might not do well is because it has a teenage female protagonist and I know people are gonna mad at me for pointing that out but I sincerely think that's true. Gameplay itself isn't bad, from what I've experienced thus far. I just think a lot of people don't know what they're supposed to expect from the game itself so there's nothing for them to get excited about. Also I think people are tired of open-world games although I'm not sure if this game is actually open-world or just really big.
I'll probably pick it up day one because by then, I'll simply be looking for something new to play. If you're not sure about the game, I'd wait for a more fair opinion than a 30 minute demo. I think this game has potential. People thinking this game is bad because of a 30 minute demo feels unnecessarily harsh. I almost skipped over the demo reading the posts here, decided to play it myself, and actually enjoyed myself. Different strokes and such. If the game uses the same physics from FFXV then this is a major step-up because I cannot stand the gameplay of that game.
The demo is not the start of the game, yes. One of the complaints from streamers that got to actually play the start of the game is that you only start with the earth magic and it takes some times to unlock fire magic (5 story chapters), which means you don't have access to meele combat for quite a while
Oh thats no bueno.
But I guess being a miss opportunity of a game would make it fit right in with FFXV

Demo got a patch:

What I'm surprised is people acting like it's a bad thing... I mean we already know the demo had its issues. Updating it to match a more current build of the game is a very good thing from the perspective of players that want to use their experience with it to decide whether to buy the game or not
Yeah the demo made me decide to hold off on the game. I'll probably try it again after the patch and see if I changed my mind.
Although it was more because of gameplay reasons than performance issues.
Yeah, honestly the gameplay just doesn't feel smooth enough to me. Don't think it was performance causing that.
Patch is not only for performance fyi, they added some gameplay changes too, although it won't improve the overall feeling that much I guess
I honestly will be checking this out, I think the gameplay was the strongest part and saw potential. I will still wait for reviews.
Gameplay is badass once you get used to the movement and the attacks you get access to give you a fuck ton of mobility. If I had an audience, I'd stream the game.
Sounds like review codes are being sent to a limited amount of media outlets.
Yeah the PC version is gonna be a fucking disaster given the recommended specs and no reviews allowed.

Demo was horrible, but I’ll give it a try. From what I’ve heard from people that has actually played the game is that the demo was bad and not an accurate representation of the game. Might be true, might not be, but I hope it’s true.
I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt, I do want to like the game. But if it’s anything like the demo… then it’ll be a trainwreck and possibly one of the worst games to be released lately.
I do have my doubts though. Like, if it’s not an accurate representation of the game and they themselves knew the demo was bad (as has been claimed), then why greenlight the release if the demo? I’m sure a lot of people were turned off by it.
Reviews are out, MC: 69 (nice) OC: 70
Dreamcastguy is doing a review later, but does a breakdown of the reviews currently out:
Other reviews:
Luminous engine really is complete ass, hopefully SE finally gives up on it after this.
In 60 fps mode it can drop as low as 720p, and still dips into the 40s.
And it's using FSR on top of that, so the internal resolution is even lower. These guys have had two console gens to optimize/tailor this engine, yet it's reportedly an unstable performance wreck like FF15 before it.
