Sure, lots of museums keep stuff in the back.

Maybe we should put up a statue of Holden Caulfield and then tear if down in protest of self-involved narcissistic white guys ruining the country.

There has been at least 597 incidents of police brutality against protesters and press since May 29th.
People keep getting shot in the CHOP. Honestly the entire thing is a distraction from the cause.
Just to really drive it home:
When we look back at ancient times, statues become a serious part of history because that is all we have to go on. Artifacts during certain time periods are rare, and they can often give us a glimpse into what the life was like. Then we also have things like Greek architecture which was a feat unto itself and also told stories.
This does not apply today. We have a million books in a country where illiteracy is almost non-existent. We have documentaries in a country where most people have access to in some form or another. We do not need these statues to tell our history. We are full to the brim with artifacts that fucking younger generations don't even want that heirloom shit anymore. (No one keeping your tea-stained doilies from the 1800s anymore, Dolores.)
Now, don't get me wrong, there are some super thought-provoking statues out there. And even then those have more to do with the human spirit than necessarily teaching history. Even then these general statues aren't those. You need to find a better excuse than "erasing history" because this ain't it.
We could also erect new statues to honor the slaves, the underground railroad, abolitionists, etc.

To my knowledge we are not suffering a global shortage of either marble or bronze.

They should attach bronze protesters on the statues, then everyone will be happy
No Gogira, no care. Anyway, destroying art is beyond fucked. Lock 'em up in area 51, next to the ark of the covenant.
