Musk is the 9th richest man on Earth, the "middle" to him could mean millionaires and multi-millionaires.

In terms of actual polling though Trump is narrowing the gap as his voters are far more enthused to actually go out and vote for him whereas most of Biden's voters are more thinking about just voting against Trump.

I follow Biden and he is out several times a week doing some sort of event or speech or teleconference but attention is slim. Without some big shake up the public isn't super interested in him, at least not as much as they are to vote against the President.

I don't know if "the left" is going to lose "the middle" in this election. However, I am trying to avoid seeing any polls but what I have looked at isn't super encouraging even if Joe wins and Democrats sweep Congress. Two years from now Republicans could take both houses again.
