I just found out today from my manager that my department head wants my entire department to come back into the office full time starting the day after Labor Day. We have all been working from home since mid-March without issue so I'm puzzled as to why he wants us back while this thing is still going strong. Roughly half of the people share offices and can't maintain social distance so it makes even less sense to send us back so soon.

I have an 11-year-old daughter and her school still does not know if they will be open in the fall or not. If they start off with online classes (I'd bet the farm on this) then I'll have to stay home and watch her. I know there are other people in the same boat as me so hopefully he'll wise up and realize making us come back when there is no need to is stupid and dangerous.

I think the reason is those states ignored the recommendations. Gov. Newsom did the best he could in CA and worked swiftly, but too many people didn't listen for a variety of reasons:

I mean you had Orange county alone revolt against doing any kind of lockdown. Then you have prisoners purposefully giving themselves Covid to try and get out of prison. Then you have LA (which has a higher populations than some states) who is just chock full of workers who couldn't stay home. It was a recipe for disaster.

But again, Newsom did respond faster than most states, and is constantly trying to get things shut down while having to deal with Trump threatening to pull funding for doing so. So that's probably why they are not criticized as much.

also, cali has like double the population of florida, so there's that. so it's per capita cases isn't exactly as bad, even though it's absolute number of cases is high. it's not californias fault everyone wants to live there.

but yeah, orange county had to fuck it up for everyone. and go figure, it's one of the more red areas of the state.

oh yes, and new executive order for michigan going in effect monday: masks required for all indoor establishments and large outdoor gatherings, 500$ fine and misdemeanor for breaking it i believe. customers and employees both. gonna be fuuuuuun times in a couple days. granted the majority of customers wear masks, but i know i'm gonna have to deal with bitchers. those who don't wear a mask i believe can be given a chance to be refused service, and an option to return to their car to get a mask or leave - if they refuse and go karen then it's cop time apparently.

and i swear if my boss tries to pull some bullshit like trying to make us ignore the order i'll probably report him to the police of the customers themselves dont. i hope he's better than that of course, but i am so damn tired and so damn used to seeing people "act grownup" which is just bullshit speak for acting like shitheads instead of actual responsible adults.

I feel sorry for anyone working in a place that gets these people. You would think that this would help you guys tho, considering it allows you/company to use the governor as the scapegoat for the rule. Now you guys can say, sorry you can't come in here because we will be fined. I know you are going to still have those ass-holes, but the hate should be re-directed a bit (Hopefully).
