I visited my parents for the first time since Christmas and my father was very much a "I'm too macho for a mask" Trump supporter. I couldn't even engage with him about it because it is so deeply ingrained that only a close bout with death might change his mind.

We already know where it'll lead. A spike in every category; cases, hospitalizations, deaths. Then a barrage of sadposting about how terrible this is and how badly _____ mishandled it.

A lot of these spikes were from early adopters when cases were already still high. I don't know if it will be the case for the more hesitant states with lower case rates, but again that's what I am curious to see.

i dont know how other states are doing it, but here in ohio we're on week 6 of reopening and cases have plateaued

I'm expecting for California a rise in positive test percentage (7-day average is at 4.6%) for the next week or two, partially because of the protests. I think there will be more significant positive infection tests sourced from church outings because more than 1200 evangelical pastors in the state vowed to open their houses of worship for Pentecost (May 31st.)

Hell, I know people who think it's not their job to protect others who are more susceptible and they are the ones who should stay home and she and her family shouldn't have to wear masks while out in public. Also she's a biology student and was adamant the second the weather heated up, this would all go away. I've had to keep my mouth shut, especially when she compared the essential workers only to the S.S. checking your papers to make sure you're not a jew.

Hopefully it keeps going down, but remember there is a significant gap between exposure and symptoms, and then you can linger for quite some time after it gets serious. We had one on a vent for 2 months before they passed, but that's not the norm.

Guy in our company has been asymptomatic from the jump. Only got tested because his location had a positive test.

That was in April. He gets his 4th test next week because he's been positive for all 3 previous tests.

Shit like this is why we need way more research on the contagiousness of people after an initial period of days. Who's to say he hasn't been contagious for a month now and has no idea.

Obviously not worth the risk without knowing, but we can't lock people in the bubble like this forever.

The general consensus is highly contagious, not necessarily highly infectious (doesn't necessarily cause symptoms in everyone), was the last I heard.

Because it's so contagious and leads to severe lung infections it's not a good idea to tempt fate.
