Both parents work in most western countries. Try telling a woman they can't work in Sweden because it'll affect the family dynamic, you won't have a girlfriend/wife for long.

Family dynamic suffers when both parents are FORCED to work in order to make enough to support the family. If both parents choose to work then that is fine but in the USA at least wages are so out of wack with living expenses most families are forced to have two incomes in order to survive which is broken.

Edit: I should also point out that these days it is not as much a male vs. female thing. I know plenty of families that would have stay at home dads instead of moms. I know I would prefer to be a stay at home dad rather than my wife staying home. She likes to work and needs that break from the family while I don't as much.

I shook my head 3 weeks ago when I heard all the arrogance coming out of Ocean City businesses, and had to stifle laughter when I heard this week about a few of them having to close down for the obvious, inevitable COVID cases.

Its this sense of unbridled arrogance in the face of reality and science that irritates me to the point of schadenfreud. If there was a sense of cautious defiance; a sense that they are aware of the issue, are going to do their best to mitigate it, but cannot afford to back down in the face of it... I could respect that. But its not that. Its pure arrogance. Its this sense of "its not real and everyone talk about it are just whiners", and when I hear talk like that, I lose all sense of sympathy and empathy when those very same people are sitting in a hospital with tubes in their nose talking about "if only I knew then what I knew now."

I feel bad for the hospital staff who have to put their lives on the line for people that didn't care about anyone but themselves. To see it happen again, and again, and again on a national stage is just infuriating, but that's what generations of anti-intellectualist pushes have done.

Another one that's pissing me off are our Military Bases overseas spiking in countries that have largely handled the situation well. I was livid hearing about our bases in Okinawa super-spiking after July 4th celebrations, as if some blind patriotism and bullishness somehow deflects against the reality that is science.

...I'm going to chuckle if he has to get one. There's a mask mandate in Atlanta, Douglasville usually goes lockstep with Atlanta within a few weeks.

This is a three house street with two occupied and the third is condemned and needs to be torn down.), but I don't trust people in the stores and I just recently made me some ear saver straps to help me tighten it a bit more since Sis used slick ribbons. Hospital data on coronavirus patients will now be rerouted to the Trump administration instead of first being sent to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Department of Health and Human Services confirmed to CNN on Tuesday.

The move could make data less transparent to the public at a time when the administration is downplaying the spread of the pandemic, and threatens to undermine public confidence that medical data is being presented free of political interference.

Michael Caputo, the assistant secretary for public affairs at the department, confirmed the change first reported by The New York Times earlier in the day, saying in a statement that the "new faster and complete data system is what our nation needs to defeat the coronavirus and the CDC, an operating division of HHS, will certainly participate in this streamlined all-of-government response. They will simply no longer control it."

"The CDC's old hospital data gathering operation once worked well monitoring hospital information across the country, but it's an inadequate system today," Caputo said in the statement.

The Times said hospitals are to begin reporting the data to HHS on Wednesday, noting also that the "database that will receive new information is not open to the public, which could affect the work of scores of researchers, modelers and health officials who rely on C.D.C. data to make projections and crucial decisions."

Tech evolution and automations are also still a thing, and if anything, is likely to be pushed harder as a response to the pandemic in the years to come. Pair with natural population growth and we're steering toward a reality where there aren't going to be enough jobs for people, anyway. But this is also nothing new from me. MW in the US has also not kept up with inflation since Reagan. So, we're extra fucked.

the thing is, the cost of labor isn't 100% of a businesses costs. it's usually around 10-20% of their total costs. so when you raise the minimum wage, even if you're doubling it, the costs would increase, yes, but the price hikes wouldn't double. your $5 happy meal wouldn't become 10$, but more like $6.50. horribly rough figures, i know, but that's the basic gist. if it DID double in cost and the business claimed it's because of the cost of labor, either your goverment pulled off the stupid "lets make the minimum wage $1,000,000 an hour!" argument in which case things would eventually (probably) balance out after a period of horrible turmoil, though with bigger numbers, assuming there was enough money in circulation to support such big wages, or your business is lying and trying to shank their customers.

and elizara, you should especially be wary with masks. the boonies generally have the big hospitals and equipment to support lots of covid patients on ventilators - they're going to get easily overwhelmed by even a few criticals. what happens then? you're gonna be screeeeeewed.

You're probably horribly overestimating the price increase on a happy meal since Walmart workers could get a liveable wage off of a 3 cent increase on boxed macaroni and cheese.
Everyone here seems to be getting a false sense of security again when it comes to masks. We are FAR too easily influenced by the US as a whole and it's gonna kick us in the ass once some tourists get through with a Covid infection.

probably, but i was going for an increase of 200% in the wages, or even closer to 25$ an hour like arus was wanting. and what i'd like too, truthfully, but that's more of a pie in the sky hope. nice if it happened, but not likely. even then, you're correct in that it's likely a vast overestimate, except for perhaps restaurants, which have very small profit margins. those would probably have more of a struggle with such high minimum wages - they'd have to figure out how they'd have to pull it off with some serious ingenuity.
