I had to burn a week of vacation before the end of the quarter. Spent it making my kids room less boring.

I had a real moment this week where I completely geeked out.

I have been trying to get those lights to alternate colors rapidly on-and-off for awhile. Pretty much every IoT device in my house has some kind of Home Assistant integration. It's great, but can be difficult to work with if, especially for things that are complicated or unique to your setup. Sometimes requires some coding, which I do not do. Not even simple YAML. Wouldn't know where to start.

Then over the last few months, people have developed tools and MCP (model context protocols) that allow things like Claude code, codex, or antigravity to completely manage everything from writing automations to designing dashboards. It plans, writes, tests, and debugs all the code and I have to confirm before it moves from a test environment into "production".

For the lights, something I've been looking into and setting up for a while, I simply promoted Antigravity to "find the lights in the upstairs nook and create a scene activated by a button in a card you'll add to my testing dashboard. The scene will make the lights continuously alternate random colors rapidly. Create a slider to adjust the speed of transition".

Antigravity spent about 5 .minutes writing code, sent it to me for review, and viola.

It has been lifechanging. Automations and setup architectures that would take hours, days, or weeks of research are done in 5 minutes of vibecoding.
Next I'm going to attempt to build this large mission control desk with working buttons, knobs, and dials.

I would have loved this as a kid, always wanted to be an astronaut. Very cool.
My job pushed us to use Claude and I'm more than happy to offload all the infrastructure code writing to Claude Code. Now I need to get onboard with it for my personal projects.
