In Japan, Nazi cosplay, especially in the uniforms of SS officers, is the second most popular form of Second World War military cosplay after Imperial Japanese Army cosplay. Such cosplay attracts criticism from Western societies. However, interviews with members of the Japanese Nazi cosplay community reveal that cosplayers are knowledgeable about Nazi history and pay significant attention to historical accuracy, which is demanded for acceptance into the cosplayer community. Nazi history falls outside their identification zone. This allows cosplayers to treat Nazi history in a manner similar to fictional narratives. Their cosplay, therefore, focuses on an aesthetic level in the precision of their reenactments. This makes Nazi cosplay substantially different to Imperial Japanese Army cosplay, where there can be strong identification with Japanese militarism. These differences in perception allow Nazi cosplay to be seen as a more acceptable practice in Japan than it would be in European countries.

My point still stands tbh. The Japanese wearing Nazi suits aren't doing it to purposefully antagonize other people. It's willful ignorance that's tolerated because their society is mostly homogeneous but I'll take that to some fucker hanging a noose on the tree in front of my house and me hoping that I don't end up with a fucking mob knocking on my door in the middle of the night.

well Japan gave it the old college try but they came late to the party and their racist imperialism only lasted a handful of decades. did work in those decades though.

but yuh Japan and most other Asian nations are casually racist as heck but what they don't have is a very recent history of lynching Koreans and taking pieces of their skin home for souvenirs. you don't have to worry about having the wrong skin color in the wrong bar in some small Japanese town. America has that touch of violence in its racism that's just mwah.
