i believe Archibald is making with the funnies as the 'coup' attempt (which is an overthrow of an existing government and so cannot be attempted by a sitting government and so this is not a coup) is a form of coping. coup is just French for blow or strike, the full phrase is coup (strike) d'(of) etat (state).

coup de grâce is, naturally, much the same but grâce (mercy) instead of etat (state). it now does refer to any decisive final strike but once was used to refer to executions and finishing off animals.

So if it isn't a coup then what is it called when a currently in office individual attempts to hijack the government to stay in power even though a transfer of power to the new leader has been requested? Not sure if requested is the right word here but I think you can see the main point I am asking.

well it doesn't matter as language is living and everyone is calling this a coup so a coup it is even if it is not

it is not, everyone is wrong. a leader refusing to step down is not an especially uncommon event, various authoritarians have been rejecting, ignoring, and/or falsifying election results since there have been elections. we don't have a nice French phrase for it tho.

No, because when Biden is set to take over, Trump will not be president anymore. Just a crazy guy sitting in the WH. The second the EC gives their votes to Biden, it doesn't matter what Trump does anymore, he will not be president.

I don't think it'll get very far. He's flailing around right now. Based on this report and a few other's ive read in the past few days, WH teams are working through backdoors with Biden's group, and everyone around him knows its over for him. Plus, the lawsuits going on are pure unmitigated bullshit. I'm honestly surprised Judges haven't slapped shit on the republicans for wasting their time.
